They do have the eagle, and that kind of looks like an Assassin's robe/armor... Maybe they want to show the ancient origin of the Assassins? Not sure that would appeal to me all that much, and I'm pretty big into Assassin's Creed. Of course, it could be entirely unrelated.

Isnt that symbol at the top directly from the game?
Also on either side of his fanny pack... thing... are a sword and some kind of small throwing blades. Both of which are weapons used in Assassin's Creed and in his left hand is a severed head. It looks as though this fellow has just assassinated someone.

wake me up when assassin's creed makes a move into a more modern or futuristic time period.
That's exactly what we're postulating this being.
You have the original Assassin's Creed in what, the 11th century? AC2 set itself in medieval Europe. Now the third part of the trilogy, only makes sense to bring it to modern day (or modern day in the story, which is futuristic to us) and finish with the modern assassin destroying the organization that's been trying to take over the world via conspiracy.
The way that AC2 ended I don't know if we will get present day AC(storyline wise) until AC 4. Desmond doesn't seem like he would be ready at the start of AC3. Which even though it kind of sad, I think it will work out well. Except for the small ball drop on leaving out those two memories in AC2, the AC series has been stellar so far.
This is probably just one of the kind of guys you can recruit into your brotherhood into the new game. It isn't AC3 because that news would make everyone ignore AC Brotherhood whatever.
