Modern Warfare 2 fan page ModernWarFail 2(no sarcasm there) has discovered three game modes hidden in the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, along with instructions on how to unlock them.
Quote:
The first gametype – “gtnw” – is Global Thermonuclear War. To play, simply capture the objective: a nuclear bomb. When captured, the bomb detonates…
The second gametype – “oneflag” – is One Flag CTF. To play, capture the flag in the middle and bring it back to your base.
The third gametype – “vip” – is VIP. To play, defend the VIP. Or, if you’re on the other team, kill the VIP.
These gametypes were only tested on Afghan and Favela. They may not work for all maps.”
The site goes on to suggest that these game modes may be modes Infinity Ward planned to release as DLC.
And the real reasons for no server support reveals itself, so they can charge for crap (probably already fully on disk content, like certain earlier fighting games....) that modders would be able to enable and already play on their own servers.
Fail indeed.
The nickle and diming of gamers (and other media) is only going to lead to more studio deaths and piracy if they continue to be done in this half-assed way.
I want somebody to dig a half eaten sandwich out of my garbage and then suggest that I'm saving it so I can sell it later.
I am guessing this is a game mode that was undercooked and requires more refinement before completion. I watched a YouTube video of it and seems like a King of the Hill type game but at the end it all blows up. Seemed like it would be boring and get old pretty quick.
Question is whether they'll be shameless enough to still pull these out of 'nowhere' as dlc.
The way I read Lactose's analogy is the game modes in question were dropped during development. I seriously doubt he would have made that comment if they had plans of releasing said modes as DLC.
Funny that they left those in there then. I could see those game modes selling, though.
