What use is GFWL in Fallout 3? Is it just for acquiring DLC? I see that link on the main menu all the time but I have never had a use for it.

I agree, I'd rather see GFWL integration than Steam integration. Only thing I like that Steam's trying to do is to put game-saves and settings in the cloud, that is a nice feature. Now, GFWL still needs to be more player friendly, but I like it in theory. All in good time and it'll be fine.

Hum, call me when Walmart and Gamestop start online gaming services and then decide not to sell MW2. Then it will have an impact.

Granted, assuming Valve takes a smaller cut than Walmart does, Activision might not mind if everybody can only buy their game online.

heh GFWL isn't as developed as Steamworks. I think MS would be better off joining forces with Valve and working the two together. Not sure how GFWL is any different than Steamworks as far as storefront incorporation goes. One of the big things behind putting it in Fallout 3 was restricting the digital distribution of the DLC to their service. They're playing the same game and Valve did it better. We haven't heard yet if DLC purchasing will be limited to Valve's storefront, but if no one else is carrying the game... I guess it's kind of a moot point.

It would be cool to see more cross platform development go into effect though, that's what GFWL really has going for it. Imagine the two services merged. You could link your Steam account to your XBL account, with the features that entails (cross-platform achievements and chat, maybe even gameplay where the limited support for it allows) and still get all the great PC community centered features of Steam (Steam Cloud, Steam Community, VAC, an actual out-of-game chat client, etc.). It would be even cooler if you could also do it with your PSN account... but I don't think we'll be seeing that anytime soon. Valve has been doing the whole 'we love xbox and hate PS3' thing for some time, right? Seems like a natural choice.
