Title Update 2 Has Landed
Today marks the long awaited arrival of “TU2” for Halo 3. Despite plenty of rumors to the contrary, this update is not ushering in a new “BR spread,” nor does it incorporate enemy AI and campaign components to the Forge map editor. However, beyond the behind-the-scenes technical implications, there are two major components for fans to note.
New Achievements!
The most exciting piece of the update for many of you is the addition of TEN brand new achievements to Halo 3. We’ve covered these in detail in prior weekly updates but in case you’re just joining us, you forgot, or you’re just too lazy to go back and read… here’s the full list:
* Vidmaster Challenge: Lightswitch (0 points) – Get to the rank of Lieutenant in any playlist in the new EXP progression system.
* Vidmaster Challenge: 7 on 7 (0 points) – Enter into any ranked or social playlist with 7 EXP on the 7th of the month.
* Vidmaster Challenge: Annual (0 points) – After 9/25/08, complete Halo on 4-player Legendary LIVE co-op, with Iron, and everyone in Ghosts.
* Double Double (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get two Double Kills during any ranked or social match.
* Poor Yorick (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get 3 Oddball melee kills during any ranked or social match.
* Came…From…Behind (50 points) – On a Legendary map, get 3 assassinations during any ranked or social match.
* Defend This (50 points) – On a Legendary map, get a flag melee kill during any ranked or social match.
* Flag Dropped (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get 2 flag carrier kills during any ranked or social match.
* Road Rage (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get 5 Warthog chaingun kills during any ranked or social match.
* Look Both Ways (50 points) – On a Legendary map, get a Splatter Spree during any ranked or social match.
...Does anyone really care about some new achievements and a minor modification to the way people are ranked?

At least they're trying to keep it fresh, while not going as far as making an entirely new game. How many times have we asked for more anything from other games, only to get stones in return?

That's Bungie for ya. They love to keep giving us new stuff to keep us playing. Whether that new stuff is a new playlist, or new DLC, it doesn't matter they want to avoid their game getting stale.
I want to play the game how I want to play in the wild, not the way Bungie says I should play.
Here's an idea play custom games with your friends. They've already addressed the reason why there's no custom game search. All of the possible permutations for custom games would dilute the user pool too much. You would never find a game even if they did implement it.
I play customs all the time. An in game custom browser would be awesome though but they'll never do it, but with forge, MLG and active friends its not that bad. The new achievements are meh for me, Im not really into achievement whoring but the new ranking system has me interested and I cant wait for the Mythic Pack.

Want to know how many people on my friend's list still play Halo 3? One guy.

Yet, it works on the PC.

Am I the only one who feels that Achievements are lame, worthless, and not any big deal? I want to know what actual relevant additions are being made to this update.

For the lazy, however, I have posted this list of updates.

The other major outward facing component of TU2 is the addition of “Playlist Ratings” to Halo 3. In a nutshell, playlist ratings are the playlist-level decoupling of Trueskill values (the in-game number next to your name) from Experience (the icon next to your name). You will now have a separate military rating (based purely on EXP) in each playlist

Players will notice that their Career Stats page has seen a pretty significant visual facelift. We’ve brought Ranked and Social stats onto the same page and allowed players to sort which stat they’d like to see first. The Gold Bars represent Ranked stats and the Purpley-blue (I’m colorblind) colored bars represent Social stats. Regardless of which preference you’re sorting by (Ranked on top, or Social on top), your medal chest sorting will mirror that preference.
The second reason we wanted to get all of the stats onto a single page was for a new feature the Bungie.net team implemented: Player Comparisons. As the name suggests, this allows you to enter another player’s gamertag into the window and we’ll spit out a side by side comparison of the two players using the new stats view.

The retiring of Big Team Social is a bit overstated as the Social 8 on 8 action is instead migrating to the DLC hoppers. Ranked Big Team, which has long-stared extinction in the face, is being hit with a meteor, but like some fauna on our planet, a 6 on 6 mode has been born from its ashes - Squad Battle.
Before we drill into the playlist specific changes, here’s the list of changes that will affect all of matchmaking.
Added Epilogue – Epitaph with no Shield Doors. Added alongside default variant.
Awesome for the people who are still playing.
Not really anything here to bring anyone back though.
I don't know, I find it kind of tempting. But the reason I stopped playing had a lot to do with frustration with the way the system worked for leveling. I hated playing that game and going down levels. You seemed to plummet like a rock after a few losses while it would take a lot of great playing to level back up. Much more frustrating that what was in Halo 2.
