Well crap. I was all set to login and get my beta key tonight. Oh well.

I never thought I would be glad to see it delayed...
I just ordered parts for a new gaming PC and received them yesterday, just in time to get it all set up and play the open beta, but unfortunately half of the RAM was DOA so I am gonna have to RMA all of the RAM (it was a set, can't send back individual pieces) meaning that the PC will be out of commission for about a week. Chances are this delay will only be for a couple days which means I still won't be able to play right when it starts, but at least now I won't be missing quite as much.
I've been in the closed beta for a while now. So far everything about this game has been a complete train wreck. I know it's beta and not everything is going to work, but I can't see this game being released in a month without it still felling like we're beta testing it.

I think all MMOs are that way, though. Even WoW had its share of issues upon its initial release. The real key is for the Developer to build a game that's a lot of fun despite the bugs to keep the fans interested for those first 3 to 6 months while they get the issues patched out. The ones that do (such as WoW, City of Heroes, LotRO) survive, while those that don't (like Tabula Rasa and Matrix Online) die off.
Sounds like every mmorpg. The next logical step is to spend the next months spinning and showing off more concept art while ignoring your beta testers until the shareholders/publisher forces you to release the game at an extremely early deadline with all the critical bugs still included.

Fixed.
Release date is 9/30 for the normal edition, and 9/22 for the collector's edition. So far there has been no announcement about the retail release being delayed, so they only have about 3 weeks to do the open beta. Seems strange to wait till the last minute for the open beta, then delay it in the 11th hour (it was supposed to go live tonight at 7PM PST). Hopefully they do get their act together and get the server stress testing out of the way with the open beta... I really don't want to have the servers crashing after I start paying the monthly fee, not to mention the risk of downtime during that 8 day head start that buyers of the CE get.
Open betas are just demos, so of course they want it to be bug free before they release it. Its not like they could make any real changes before the street date anyway.
