Dedicated Servers For UT3 On 360

From the official Epic forums comes the news that Epic has committed to hosting dedicated multiplayer servers for the 360.

The 360 version supports dedicated servers and there will be a similar number of official 360 dedicated servers to what we provided for the PC and PS3.

Good news for UT fans with a 360. With this news and split-screen multiplayer, it's shaping up to be a pretty good port.

I dont really care for UT360 getting servers, but I guess this basically means that Epic will be hosting dedicated servers for Gears of War 2, which I am much more interested in.

Nope. They've already confirmed that will not happen.

The commitment with GoW2 is to "have better netcode" that reduces the host advantage.

For the times I've played UT3 on the PC, I've enjoyed myself. I also very much enjoyed Unreal Championship on the original XBox. This should be good...I may break and actually purchase the 360 version...hoping the servers have more people than I've so far found in the PC world.

Yeah, the difference in number of online peeps they would have to support between those two games is enormous.

I'm still torn between this and Bad Co. I think I would like Bad Co overall more than UT3 but that split screen is a huge plus.

I think it's good that dedicated servers are possible if the pub/dev are willing to do it. The way Live works just gives more options.

There was an interesting neogaf thread discussing how UT3 never really took off, more people are playing UT2K4 This list shows it ranking quite low in number of players. I have this feeling that the game isn't going to be a blockbuster on the 360.

At this point, I would be very surprised if the 360 version of UT3 became a blockbuster. It's basically hitting the system with no marketing.

A flaw in your logic there. 360 is getting dedicated servers for UT3 because the ps3 and PC versions already have dedicated servers.

I don't expect to see a PC or ps3 version of Gears of War 2 before I see the 360 version.

On top of that, CliffyB already squashed the notion of dedicated servers for gears2 in a recent 1up interview.

Still good news for UT3 and the 360.

One thing I wish they still had was Assault. It was my favorite mode from the series, aside from the classic deathmatching. Assault was amazing.

The Warfare mode is pretty fun. Kinda like Assault but more frantic.

Next Tuesday, I'm all over it. This is indeed good news as the battles can get pretty insane in UT.
