Exclamation Nuclear Launch Detected...

Well I finally found my case/chassis and splurged half my month's saving on it.
The Thermaltake Level 10 case has finally arrived!

I ordered mine on Monday after a little conflict with the warehouse distribution guys.

But it should be here soon, maybe by the end of the week, or beginning of next.
In case nobody knows, the Level 10 is a co-op design with Thermaltake and BMW.
I persoanlly love the looks, not only from a unique design standpoint, but from a thermal design as well.

Seems it's a hit or miss on if you like it or not.
Some, like me, love it, others completely hate it.

I'll post some pictures and maybe a video once it comes in and I get all my parts situated inside.
But for pictures check the official Flickr page until then.

Stay tuned!

I already got all my parts for the most part.
Still need more videocards, and I plan on getting 6 HDDs.
All Velociraptors, 300Gb.
Raid 1 on every other drive.
D 1 is mirrored by D 2.
D 3 is mirrored by D 4... etc.

I'm going to put 2 DVD-Combo drives in it, and a 5.25" LCD in the middle drive bay.

Right now I got only 1 Video, 1 150Gb, and 2 500Gb Raid 1 drives.
All my parts are laid out in the open, which isn't cool.
So buying a case to put this shit in was more of a press than additional hardware.

And yes, I spent $750 on it.

It's ugly in a smexy kinda of way. I'd use it if I felt like spending nearly a grand on the case alone.

Why the hell are you going with velociraptors when a good WD Caviar black 1 terabyte has comparable performance, is cheaper, and has 700 more gigabytes of space?

Not to mention how getting an SSD will just be better in every single regard if you're willing to spend that much money.

I like the case, but it's too damn huge. It would be like having a boulder in my room; a classy boulder, but a boulder nonetheless.

I'll post pics when it comes in.
Un-boxing, fine details and what not.
I'll be in this thread if anyone has any questions.
I know pics form retailers look classy, but never give you any real coverage on areas you want to see.

I got mine from Provantage, I've never purchased from them before, but they seem cool enough so far!

I'm aiming at the 10,000RPM speed.
Honestly the HDDs are going to be one of the last things looked into, after all the video cards are stacked in it.
Honestly besides SSD and traditional platter drives, there is really hardly any difference in drives are far as a performance to size ratio anymore.
I'm simply looking at the Velociraptors since I owned and still use the original 150 Raptor X.
I've found some Velociraptors in 300Gb sizes for pretty cheap.
Of course no platter HDD will match even a budget SSD, but the prices on SSD isn't quite right for me yet.
Understand, yes I've spent quite a bit of money into this system, but it is by no means a "TOP of the line" system.
I've got a entry level i7 1366, at 2.6Ghz, which runs great.
I OCed the processor to 3.4 Ghz and noticed no real statistical improvement.
Honestly, I've ran/run more than 5 games at once and usage barely hit 50%.
The only thing that went up by OCing the system was the temperature in my room...

I have only a 275GTX videocard in it.
Of course as funds come in, I'll add two more cards and do Tri-SLI.
But even this one card has been running Dawn of War 2 with Ultra settings on my TV at 1920 X 1080 quite nicely...

CPU stays at a modest 50-55 when gaming even for extended periods of time.

If anyone is a member of the PC Elitists group, I'll be be posting pictures of some of my hardware later today.
Naked.
And caseless...

Eccckk! That's grody!

What's the point of having multiple access doors when you can have just one?

I don't like it...... But, Shela, if you like it that's really all that matters. Good for you!

Thanks for understanding my definition of sexy!
Honestly from a design stand point, it's nothing *that* great LOOKING.

But, BUT, it looks evil, and my biggest thing is the thermal concept of the design.
I understand some people want 20 120MM Fans all blowing in random directions, but I prefer some mild, if well designed cooling.
I think having everything in seperate compartments is an amazing idea, not to mention if you check in my OP, there are knockout holes for watercooling as well, should you want to do that too.
Also all the cables are tucked away in the vertical section of the tower minimizing/eliminating cable interception of airflow, as well as giving the inside a clean and flush look.

I'm having trouble sleeping since I clicked the "Check Out" button for this thing, but I'll have the time of my life when it gets here....

Hum...

You do realize this can be taken quite differently out of context, didn't you?

Not a big fan of the design--I can appreciate the style and particularly the thermal properties. But it's not something I'd want sitting on top of my desk. And if it's going beneath your desk, then what's the point?

Kudos, though, for having a case with a big Cylon/KITT eye in it.

There are cheaper harddrives that are NOT raptors that perform the same or better as raptors, and they're only 7200rpm. Going for purely raptors is both a waste of money, lack of space, and i understand the idea behind the huge heatsink for harddrives, but raptors put out a LOT more heat than most other drives.

I'd go with the new terabyte seagate SATA-6g drives if you wanted performance and space.

Please link these drives that you speak of.
I haven't kept up with the HDD market very much recently, and last I checked (outside of SSD) Velociraptors were *the* best drives on the market.

Size isn't really an issue, I've got an External 2TB that I'll have things backed-up on, or copied to.

What I'm looking at is seek time.
I want *FAST*
Temperature isn't a issue, neither is sound.

But if EvAv can find a better drive, you'll get no fight from me!

If you want seek time, you need to go SSD. The have seek times in the nanoseconds. Anything performance and you want to go SSD. The intel X25 line is absolute king of anything harddrive related at the moment.

Still, they're outrageously expensive, but if you're going for a $750 case, then that probably isn't an issue.

When it comes to good ol' magnetic drives, the best two available these:
http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3668
Either the Seagate XT 2T or the WD Caviar Black 2T.

Here's some benchmarks with the velociraptor included.

To our way of thinking, any drive which can not only beat the VelociRaptor in speed, noise and value has to be one heck of a product....
....If you are looking at the VelociRaptor and can justify $300 for a hard disk drive, yet don’t want to leap onto the SSD bandwagon until it proves itself a bit more, THIS is the drive you want. Seriously, forget about the VelociRaptor line and spend your hard earned dollars on the Western Digital 2TB Black. We’re still pulling our jaws off the floor at its performance.

Wow, that is nice. I'll have to keep this in mind when I upgrade mine. I recently rebuilt my machine and the case is the only thing "original" to my last build. So tempting...

SSDs definately have the potential to be the "next big thing". Currently our hard drives are among the biggest bottle necks in our system.

I recently had a chance to pick up two of the OCZ Vertex 256 GB SSD drives. Having them is quite nice! I'm definately noticing the faster transfer rates and access times. Windows 7 boots in 8 seconds.

The Vertex drives are not quite as fast as Intel's X25 line, but they have much more useable capacities... the Intel's are a bit small IMHO.

Edit: Also, correct me if I'm wrong, I believe the Intels are SLC drives versus MLC for the Vertex, which means that, aside from the better performance, the Intel's will last for more write cycles.
