Titled Left 4 Dead 2 - Zombie Survival Guide, this new trailer showcases some of the personalities found in Valve's sequel. It's zero gameplay, and all cinematics, but it still looks freakin' awesome.
Suddenly 'yearly' is way too soon for a franchise? No. Not if they're freaking good. Only when 1 year = sucky game should we bother complaining, and then its own dismal sales will take care of that.
Besides, the usual reason for a game taking so long is having to build its engine over and over, and tweak it for the rapidly advancing graphics of the day.
If you take a single engine and continually tweak it with time, and graphics tech has levelled off into 'good enough' territory, which I will argue it has, the DX10 hiccup has leveled everyone off at DX9 for several years now, then you can continually build content.
Why is it L4D2 and not an L4D expansion? Good question, that's a murkier decision. One argument is that if the engine is significantly upgraded, then it is a new version, and if the engine isn't touched much it's an expansion.
But one day, game designers will do most of their game designing of standardized development platforms provided by middleware partners. And content can be released faster that way.
The only questions that matter then become: Is it good? And is it worth it for that price? So far, everyone seems to think so for L4D2.
The first one didn't have the lasting appeal that I thought it would have. But I gotta say, I wan't me some chainsaw action so I'm probably gonna pick this up
My view here is if you got L4D, then L4D2 should be discounted somewhat.
But still, I dunno, I recently sold my Xbox 360 so I'm unsure whether I'll be able to get this for my PC or not, just the type of game it is. We'll see.
Man I am so looking forward to this. These trailers so far have just been pure awesome.
heh My only complaint is that 'lead pipe' isn't one of the melee weapon options... I cleared Silent Hill 2 almost exclusively with that weapon. We have a strong bond. Looks like I'll have to go all 'Free Man' and stick with the crowbar.

Wait for it to go on sale, or buy a 4 pack with some friends to get a discount!

That is what I'm likely to do, problem is on the xbox I had four friends to play with, on the PC I've only really got one friend I know who plays enough for it to be fun. I'll wait for the discount, but it's kinda annoying.
