Guitar Hero Smash Hits Box Art

Activision sends along word that Guitar Hero Greatest Hits has become Guitar Hero Smash Hits and gives us a sneak peek at the box art.

Quote:
Guitar Hero Smash Hits (former working title Guitar Hero Greatest Hits), slated to release in June on all consoles in North America. Featuring 48 master tracks from Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Guitar Hero Smash Hits includes some of the most famous Guitar Hero songs playable with guitar or for the first time as a full band.
I just picked up Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero Metallica. I play guitar and my son sings. My house has been rockin'.

What should've been DLC is a $60 disc. I'm sure I'll grab this when it's less than $20 or probably rent it. GH: Metallica was really fun but I can't imagine paying full price for it after playing it endlessly for a week.

Between DLC and Activision putting out a new Guitar Hero game every year (or twice a year) there is so much game content out there that I'm in the same boat as you -- I wait until I can grab these at a discount before buying them.

I think it was a good decision for Harmonix to skip Rock Band 3 this fall, except that their comptition isn't sitting still. If they were smart, they should release Rock Band 3 in early to mid-2010 instead of waiting till the fall.

Assuming they release one at all. At this point, I can't imagine what new things they could put in Rock Band 3 that would make it more than a glorified track pack. Not that I wouldn't buy it in a heartbeat, but still. Rock Band 2 is honestly pretty perfect to me, all they need to do it keep releasing songs for it and it can last forever.

I actually think that Rock Band is going the right direction with their new release this year (Beatles). I much prefer discography approaches to disc releases to coincide with downloadable content that I can pick and choose from versus the hodge-podge of the numbered releases which seem to only have a 40% ratio of liked versus I can't stand songs on them.

Endlessly for a week?? Sounds like it would have been worth $60 to you. You just sound too cheap.

I rented it and after playing it for a whole week I realized that while it was fun it wasn't for worth $60. But yeah, I am cheap.

Honestly, when I wrote that about Rock Band 3 skipping this year, I totally forgot about Rock Band Beatles. So, I guess we are still getting a Rock Band title this year.

This is unreasonable. The GH model of releases is really silly, and the only reason it's tolerated by its' userbase is because of the 'Guitar Hero' brand name. They're not exactly sowing good faith amongst those 'in the know' with these tactics.

A greatest hits album? Greatest Hits albums are for housewives and little girls.
