On Tuesday morning, Aspyr Media and Activision announced that Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock will be released this fall for both PC and Mac.
Aspyr, best known for bringing games like Call of Duty 2 and The Sims 2 to the Mac along with the original Stubbs the Zombie, is handing the development for both games. Both versions will feature multiplayer battle mode, finger numbing boss battles and unlockable content. Packed with over 70 tunes, players will also access an expanded online multiplayer mode across either platform for the ultimate in competition.
The PC/Mac version of the game will ship with USB version of the guitar. The PC/Mac version should ship alongside all of the other version of GHIII.
Great now there are going to be people walking around with their laptops and GH guitars in their fancy GH gig bags impressing all the ladies by playing songs on Expert.
Just what colleges need!

I'm sure you're not _entirely_ serious. But I know multiple people who've bought gaming systems (PS2 and/or X360) SOLELY for the purpose of playing Guitar Hero. GH has crossed over into the nongaming mainstream. If those mainstreamers already have a mac, all the better if they can play without buying a console.
Sweet. I have been playing Frets on Fire for the last couple months, which is great (and free), but I would really like the polished, full featured Guitar Hero experience.
EDIT: Mdot: a lot of people use the 360 guitar for Frets On Fire, but I think they have to wrangle some 3rd party drivers off the interwebs to get it to work properly.

If you plug your 360 guitar controller into your pc you will notice it will pick it up as a guitar controller, I would be suprised if it doesnt work with GH3

No third party drivers needed. You plug it in, XP recognizes it immediately and it just works. Run Frets on Fire and bind your respective keys as you would in any other PC game.

Hmmm. That sways me even further towards picking up a 360 guitar. Thanks for the tip.

I will say though that even with the timing adjustments available, FoF is a bit tougher than the GH series. But the hammer on/pull off system of FoF completely obliterates that of GH, which is why Neversoft is taking a cue from it for GH3.
is it even possible for me to take my old ps2 guitar and buy a converter, and use it on my PC? I love the GH series, but I'd really rather not plop down for another guitar.
