I think the controller looks a bit weird, but from what I read it is supposed to be really good. The X360 controller is almost unbeatable so it will be interesting to give this new one here a try. The console itself looks rather sleek and nice. Not two thumbs up but at least one and a half.

It's funny how the same people who spent this entire generation vociferously defending the existing PS3 controller as superior to the 360 controller now brag about how similar the PS4 controller is to the 360 controller.

I'm not sold on either new console overall, and certainly not by looks. I think they are both ugly, and soulless looking monoliths that suck all of the happy thoughts out of the room. Gone are the days that a console's design was supposed to emit emotion, I guess.

Think back at how the original 360's design personified anticipation. Or the sleek, sports car look of the N64 and how it's design almost said "lets see how fast we can go". These new consoles look like my cable box.

Isn't that most electronics in general at this point? I look at the PC's that come into my work and they all look bland and boring. Not much life in them. I just think just general design is trying to go with the "sleek" "clean" look. Not so much the "wow look at that".

Those PCs are either no frills machines sold at Best Buy or made for work. Andy company that sells gaming PCs have dragons on them, much like a tricked out Honda Civic used for street racing.

Video game consoles are gamer toys, not workstations. These look like serious business, not like the toys they are.

Not really sure it matters what it looks like really.. both Xbox and PS4.. its not like a fashion accessory you pick up and handle... they are black boxes that you never really look at as your focused on the seen.

Seen this over on Escapist: Shit Microsoft just can't catch a break atm... essentially saying most people wont notice the restrictions and crap stuff they've added.... implying your customers are uniformed morons is not "good education".

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news..._campaign=news

Yeah I suppose it's up to the core to educate those "retards" into which system to buy.....

PS4 controller looks nice. I have the ps3 (and 2) and never consciously had a problem with the controller, but this one sure looks more comfortable.

The console however looks pretty hideous.

Haven't tried either ones controllers but I like the one's new D pad. Never liked PS's d pads. But just talking looks.

He's right in that there is some extra value for consumers. However, Microsoft doesn't have a really good reputation in the digital delivery space. I'm thinking of Live mostly, but some of their regular software borders on constant forced upgrades.

Forced upgrades might be acceptable in the corporate business community, but consumers are more SOHO, and I don't think they're going to take to Microsoft's digital model.

The first time MS does something that's perceived as being against the consumer (like revoking a license) I think they'll generate enough bad will to hurt themselves quite a lot.

The controller is slightly more comfortable than the PS3 controller. The sticks themselves are annoying because the convex inner bump where your thumb rests being surrounded by a raised lip. I didn't get to use the touchpad, but it better not be used in anything that also uses its click-in feature, as when I barely applied pressure to the touchpad it clicked in. I still far prefer the Xbox 360 (and Xbox One) controllers.

I read the article as: Most consumers are stupid so if we advertise at them enough we can gloss over the really nasty things were doing and they will buy it anyway.

Personally I've been asked a few times already which to buy by a few friends and they are not getting Xbox1s currently. Simply look at the pros and cons of each system and so far the Xbox1 isn't a viable system in my eyes.. yet.

Microsoft need to kill the spying thing dead and commit to not doing it while they clearly also need to reconsider how their DRM works. Way too much money on the former so it's only route is propaganda. Myself as what I consider a reasonable person most of the time need to ensure that people who are not in the loop with this understand the issues and can make an informed decision. It's up to them really but we can't trust Microsoft top give them the true picture of what they are buying into.

TDiddy has used the controller, so far I've only seen Giant Bombs experience with it and they were impressed. I do prefer the Xbox 360 controller over the PS3 but its still pretty good and not a deal breaker for me especially considering the new one is supposed to be better. The sticks could easlily be modified with rubber caps so its not an issue.. though I would suspect the PS4 controller is significantly more expensive Vs the Xbox1.

You can't tell me there isn't a market for a Sony made Xbox pad ripoff though. I know I'd definately buy one. For some people the controller will be a deal breaker. For me it's just a case of 'sometimes my thumbs touch and it's kind of annoying'.

Except they want to be media centers in the living room. There are many many many wives who tolerate their husbands and kids gaming excessively, but will absolutely freak out if something ugly with egregious cables tries to live in the meticulously decorated entertainment center. Keep it sleek, black, and not drawing attention to itself, and more moms approve of it's center placement.

Just like there is a choice of consoles that gives you certain rights and allowances, so are there wives. Perhaps you should have chosen the "Sony" wife who's always like "Whatever" (though she may not have a soul). Or the always fun "Nintendo" wife (though you suspect she's always trying to get your dad to play with her). But alas, those stuck with the "Microsoft" wife always have to look out for her spying on them, have to check in periodically, and can stop you from playing games if they don't like the way things look.

If your whole argument here is that you think you can sneak this into the living room without your wife freaking out, you are kind of reinforcing the idea that these are soulless designs that don't emit fun or excitement at all.

Your not married, are you? A happy wife is a happy home, brother, and let me tell you, visible speaker cable is a capital offense in their world. You don't want to see the conflict created by the Tron Green Halo edition of the X-Box sitting next to the hand carved African mask and William Sonoma authentic venetian plate.

There are plenty of Bro's in Training in the same boat with their moms. And you can't divorce Mom and go full man-cave. Especially if she's paying the rent.

And for you guys w/ your glass circle sitting on cinder blocks for a coffee table, go get the extreme edition Master-Chief's Junk Talks To You box and enjoy!

My wife and I have been married for 14 years, dated 3 years before that. My wife accepts me for who I am, and I do the same to her. That said, she accepts the fact that I play video games and spend hours alone with a soldering iron a few days a month. Are there compromises that are made? Yeah, sure. But the color of a video game console, or it's lights, or the fact that its doesn't look like a cable box aren't things we argue about. We both like games so it's a non-issue, and we aren't embarrassed about or hobbies.
