1) They're not aliens from Mars, a portal to hell got opened on Mars!
2) What if the installation did not have duct tape or he never found any? Portals to hell everywhere and all that. Not exactly Home Depot shopping.
1) If they are honestly monsters from Hell, ok I can live with that. I often confuse Doom 3 with the crappy Doom movie since they were not released too far apart, and in the movie it was genetic alien things. But if it's demons I stand corrected.
However
2) Ok, lets say there is no duct tape on installation. Let's roll with it for a moment, if there's no duct tape, or any type of adhesive tape, couldn't the Marine use something else to attach the flashlight to his weapon? A piece of rope? Some string? Hell rip a decent sized chunk off of his clothing (Under his armor of course) and use that to tie the flashlight to the weapon. Shoelaces maybe? You see where I'm going; Even with a lack of duct tape, with that much technology there, they had SOMETHING that could attach a flashlight to the barrel of a weapon.

Or to his shoulder, belt, helmet or the like. The Doom 3 marine is not the first human being to be tracked in the dark, but he sure seemed to be the most baffled by it.
There is something totally broken about having to wait for a price drop on an old game.
I second this notion. Twice. Anything over $20 is RIDICULOUS. Crysis, RE4, great games. The remasters sold for $20, which was tolerable. $39.99 solidifies me not going back to Doom 3. If I do, it'll be with the original.
You know, with game purchases on the decline and talks of a paradigm shift in pricing, Im shocked that we would see such crazy pricing on this.

The problem with D3 is they removed all the good things I enjoyed about Doom. The wet sounds of the demons body parts as they blow apart and the chunks landed. The weapons sounds. The edginess of it all. I didn't hate D3 but, it really needed some "God or War" style gibbing and decapitations. The enemy corpses need to stick around so, you could pump a few more rounds into them. It needed to be more like "Dead Space" with horrible enemies that looked human but, not quite. Hell and the hellspawn need to be hellish. They just weren't in D3.
Biggest thing for me where the weapons and the weapon sounds. They sounded like toys, not death dealing instruments. I wouldn't mind enemies jumping out of closets as long as I could blow them into gibs with my shotty and admire my handiwork.
Honestly, I think a simple rule of thumb is, if the enemies disappear after death, the game will suck. It's like a money shot in porn. When you're done with a hard fought battle, you want to be able to look back at what you did and feel some accomplishment. Nothing says accomplishment like piles of demon carcasses and chunks littering the level. Again, Dead Space and Dead Space 2 show you how it should be done. The enemies eventually vanish but, not usually till you're done with the level. Rage had the same problem. I hated it when certain enemies would turn to smoke and I couldn't loot the corpses.
Id needs to relearn what people liked about their old games. The shooting bits are really just a small part of it.
My feeling is that tech is king at Id and gameplay second. They won't leave corpses around because it might cause the frame rate to drop. They forget that gameplay is king and framerate and glitz a distant second.
Back to the Duct tape discussion... you say, he could have used other things to attach it to his gun...
The problem we are facing is, that, he had multiple guns. How many flashlights is this guy carrying to in fact attach to the vast number of guns this guy is carrying? And where would he find the time with flaming skulls, and demons chasing him? Its just the third degree to the overall problem.
1. Duct tape?
2. No duct tape?
3. Vast number of different sizes of guns and number of guns
4. Time

So what you're saying is that he couldn't find a place in his Tardis-pockets to place duct tape because it was full of all the guns he had stored there unrealistically.
Game. Set. And match.

Pretty much. We are talking about a marine that can apparently carry hundreds of pounds of guns, and a flashlight. The duct tape was just too much. It would have been the straw that killed the camels back.

In the film the monsters specifically went for people that had bad souls or had that 'bad' gene inside of them so it wasn't just alien genetic thingies... there was more to the film but people didn't notice that as they were too busy complaining and not thinking for themselves.

I read that this morning and I couldn't even understand it. Then, I decided to try and decypher it again this afternoon thinking, it could be different. Nope. Just gibberish. I dont even know what point he is trying to make, or the discussion he is even in.
My bet is a conversation with the voices in his head.
