I can't wait for the Diablo / Blizzard zealots try to argue their way around someone saying "My SINGLE PLAYER game was HACKED".
Bets on who uses the "its online only" circular logic first?
If the reports are correct, you likely wouldn't get hacked in this manner if you treat it as a single-player game or only play with people you know.
So, the only way for your "single player game" to be hacked is if your entire account was broken into via more "traditional" methods.

The "authenticator" only helps if the crackers aren't already logged in.
If they are already authenticated, and they found a exploit to access other accounts (which appears to be the case), then the "authenticator" can't do crap.

Of course they would never admit to having problems. If they do then nobody will risc using the real money auction house they plan to kick off next week.
It will be a lot of fun watching people getting their money stolen from their accounts. I for one will not use the RMAH.
I've combed through the whiny tantrums being thrown on the official battle.net forums and there has yet to be a real case of someone with an authenticator being hacked.
As for me, I have an authenticator from the WoW days and I've never been hacked since I started D3 as well. I also have paid McAfee internet security, employ revolving passwords with EVERYTHING and have common sense not to fall for phishing scams, but that should go without saying.
I think the hackers are using the usual tricks that the usual newbies who jump on the 'latest hot game bandwagon' fall for every time. I happens with every new MMO, and as said before with a Real Money Auction to reward hackers they smell fresh noob blood in the water.
Oh right, I've also never played one public game to date-- always only game with people on my friends list-- so there's that. The idea of Public Games confuses and vexes me, though. Who wants to play with untested allies??

In Diablo 2 there were all kinds of open games to trade, or to make "runs". Be it Cow level, Mephisto, Diablo or whatever. And they were fun and harmless.

It's getting difficult to separate the speculation from the truth from you guys. Was anyone able to find a link which verified that an attack? I heard from a good source (word of mouth, so its not worth much), that the last hack was a hoax.
You need evidence of people getting accounts hacked? Will that is %100 verified, that are thousands of cases of accounts getting hacked. The main speculation is how the handful of authenticated accounts are getting hacked.
This is the general discussion of the official D3 forums, just read the first 5-6 pages and you will see many upset hacked people with their accounts stripped clean. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/3354739/
