VG247 has posted an article on the latest financial report on Sony.
Quote:
Sony has been hit by an annual loss of ¥456.7 billion ($5.74 billion) in comparison to the ¥259.6 billion loss last year, with PS3 sales also down.
For Q4 FY2012, a ¥255 billion yen ($3.2 billion) loss was reported.
The Consumer Products and Services division, the branch the PlayStation business falls into, has made a ¥229.8 billion ($2.8 billion) loss compared to the ¥10.8 billion profit for the same period last year.
Sales were also down by 18.5% to ¥3.13 trillion ($38.2 billion) within all parts of the group. Lower sales of PS2 and PS3′s price-cut last August at gamescom were noted within the CPS group.
Worldwide PS3 hardware sales are down for the year to 13.9 million from 14.3 million in the same period in 2011. PSP is also down by 1.2 million to 6.8 million from 8 million, while PS2 sales are down 4.1 million from 6.4 in 2011.
Software for PS3 is up, though, to 156.6 million units sold worldwide from the 147.9 million in the same period last year. PSP is down to 32.2 million units from 46.6 million units in FY2011 and PS2 is down at 7.9 million units from 16.4 million units.
Vita sales weren’t given in the report, but Sony’s forecasted a combined 16 million sales worldwide for Vita and PSP for FY2013.
Man, I feel bad for them. I know they made some stupid ass decisions, but it's still a shame to see a company go down the drain. And the thought of a "triumphant" and bloated Microsoft perched atop the throne makes me cringe. Competition breeds innovation.
Has sony given any info on how they plan to turn things around? They are facing major competition in every market they are in. They can't afford to take losses like this forever.
There's probably no preventing the death of Sony at this point. Their dropping fortunes are a direct result of their internal view of themselves as a formerly great hardware company. This is preventing them from evolving, and keeping their market strategy that worked in the 80's but hasn't in modern times with much stronger competition.
ElektroDragon you seem to be the only person who likes the thing. Did I miss an amazing feature it offers or something?
What, the Vita? OLED screen and dual thumbsticks, haven't your heard? Graphics as good as a PS3 in the palm of my hand. Only portable system besides Windows Phone 7 to offer Trophies/Achievements. What's not to like??

Um... how about everything? A good screen and dual sticks? WOOOOOOW, really? So what? It's an updated PSP with amazing graphics, I grant you that... but if it's library doesn't end up being significantly better than the first PSP's it will be totally irrelevant. Only when and if it gets a full-blown homebrew scene like the original PSP did will have ANY interest. Frankly I can't see one good reason to buy the Vita.

Does it have any good games that aren't inferior ports?
Uncharted on it is not a port and is very good. Hot Shots Golf on it is not a port and is very good, better than console version. As for the rest, I will admit, they are ports or not that stellar, like Little Deviants.
I see you guys' points, but I still love mine, and don't regret it for a second. Now my 3DS on the other hand....
No, Sony isn't going anywhere. This is a great time to buy SNE stock. The Japanese don't just give up the ghost on companies like Sony.
Eventually, reality asserts itself.
Just wait until investors begin abandoning the company. Stock price drops below $1. It's delisted from the major exchanges. It's credit rating sinks to Gzsfrk's favorite bust size (DD) :P
Suddenly, Samsung makes a hostile takeover bid and remaining investors flock to their offering. And then it's over.

I'd buy a Vita just for the geek factor... they just need one game that I'd love to push me over the edge. A bundle with an updated FF7 that took advantage of the screen and hardware and I'd kill anyone who got in my way of a checkout lane.
