Some video game analysts are claiming Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 won't break any records, partly because they believe new hardware is needed to increase sales.

Analysts think that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will sell like hotcakes, but it won't achieve the same level of success as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Their opinions are chiefly based on two factors: this holiday will be crowded full of quality games, and new console hardware will be needed to drive Call of Duty sales further.
According to Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter, "I don't think Modern Warfare 3 is going to sell more than the last Black Ops, so I doubt that this one will break a record. I think that Call of Duty is a phenomenon, selling way more than 20 million units annually, and it's unrealistic to think that number can grow meaningfully with each annual release."
"I think games like Call of Duty need new console hardware - developers are working with 7-year-old technology in an environment when tablets and smart TVs will soon be just as powerful,"
Well yes, if you're just doing a re-hash of the same game that's already been made 5 times, then you're going to need graphical enhancements to get the dude bros buying it.
4 times the amount of pre-orders of Black Ops 2, 30% more than MW3. I call bullshit.
I have to agree with you. I was expecting a slight sales drop due to the fact that this series is getting a little (a LOT) stale with the yearly release schedule, but the massive number of pre-orders kind of tromps that kind of thinking right into the ground.

Yeah, when I read that info, I was blown away. The CoD train is far from being done. I don't know what these analysts are smoking. Hell, I think Machinima posted a poll on Facebook asking what people thought of BLOPS 2. Skimming through, a lot seemed positive. This may be enough for fans to feel like they're bringing the series forward. What I wonder is where do they go from here. WW2, a touch of 'Nam, the Modern Era, and now a near-future setting. Next-gen, they better do a serious overhaul or they're cooked. But as we've seen with Guitar Hero, brand fatigue can set in. The question in my mind though is if rhythm games died out largely due to peripherals or if it was a fad. This is a bit different. I thought they were missing some steps and starting to slow down with MW3. Not now though...
that they can just basically make "skins" for one game and just rename it, and that people just eat it right the fuck up, absolutely baffles me
People enjoy the gameplay, it has a decent single player that some people purchase the game for and of course a huge online following.
While of course they manage to shoot a COD out like the Madden of the FPS world it still apparently fun enough for people to invest in. It's just like when people here talk about L4D... they would have no problem with just getting new maps and what not because they love the gameplay.

I have no idea what other people are thinking, but the screenshot and the video of the horse scene certainly have me interested. It has that whole USA vs. Al Qaeda vibe.

I heard they are getting away from Killstreaks (I can only hope), but if they dont, and they have a horse killstreak, they will win a lot of people over. People loved the dogs, imagine horses. Or hell, you riding a horse for a killstreak.... Ah the joys of being a gamer.

Leave killstreaks alone. In fact, make them more powerful. I love running around getting 16 kills in a row just to have the osprey gunner knocked out of the sky immediately. FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
