The Wormser Publisher Kalypso today announced a new game. DARK to be a stealth-action game with RPG elements. In it, players assume the role of Eric Bane, a new vampire who wakes up one day in a busy bar with other vampires and without memory.
Now it is up to the player to explore Banes past. These creeps and fight your way through a dark, modern world and must fight off numerous enemies.
It uses Bane "powerful vampire abilities," who should enable him to others, to teleport himself to his opponent and quickly turn off, it is said in the official press release. The first playable version will be shown at the Role Play Convention (5 to 6 May 2012) in Cologne.
The developer Realmforge uses a cel-shaded look to the dark vampire adventure to set the stage. There are some screenshots in our gallery. Appear to play in the first quarter of 2013.
Probably one of the worst reasons to dislike a game. Didn't you like Borderlands? Firefall? These mix realism with cel-shading creating what we here have dubbed 'comic-shading' to differentiate from cartoon style graphics. Look at the screen-shot. It's not going for pure realism--which in my book is a major plus. The graphics can be so much more beautiful if you aren't going for pure realism--and it's impossible to achieve that kind of realism anyway.
Seriously, the gameplay and story could be 1000% amazing, and you walk away for cel-shading? Seems short-sighted.
Back in my day, we didn't even have polygons, and we liked it. All we had were sprites done in 8-bit color. We'd march to school twenty miles each morning through 56-kbps modems and 386 CPUs, and we didn't even have graphics cards. Hell, I played my first games on a black and white tv--try to buy one of those today!
Low-G Man had blue and red potions--blue was good, red was deadly. I was playing in black and white. Htf could I play this game in black and white? Turns out red is slightly more luminous than blue, thank god :P

As it happens, I do dislike both of them (got into FF beta just few days ago) even though I'm a pretty big shooter genre fan. Borderlands wasn't very fun to begin with but the visuals just killed whatever fun I could have had with the game.
Now if we some day get an amazing game that happens to be cel-shaded, I'm pretty sure I can enjoy the game regardless of cel-shading but so far I have not seen or played a single good cel-shaded game; it's almost like a stamp that says "this game is not for you (well, me)".
