The announcement has been made via a teaser image (pictured) on the official Bethesda blog, revealing little more than the title and that it'll be "coming this summer to Xbox 360".
It also says to expect "more details at E3", which is handy since, you know, we'll be there and all.
Although there are no further details, Skyrim players apparently uncovered clues in a recent game update which hinted at DLC featuring Snow Elf characters, crossbows and new vampire animations.
Seems way too late to me also. They should be announcing that the DLC is coming out during E3, not announcing what the DLC will be. Way too late for a lot of people.
I think they missed the boat on this one. I'm not a huge fan of Day 1 DLC, but there has to be some kind of balance.
I still can't wait to see what they came up with. It must be a massive expansion for them to have held off this long.

Not really true at all. Gameplay will get you some nice reviews, but games don't even get into the top 10 bestsellers for the week of release without marketing.
It may be incredibly annoying but announcements of announcements are here to stay, as long as it continues to be proven that good games with poor marketing always under perform.
Rather late than never, rather later than too soon!
I agree. I just got Skyrim (waited and snagged it for $30) so the timing works perfectly for me. Also, I hope Evil is right that it's some massive expansion.

never said marketing hurts sales.
I believe marketing that pushes gameplay sells more copies than teaser trailer. I have nothing against footages showing off gameplay.
CG trailers, viral videos...etc are waste in my opinion.
With the delay and their previous statements, it sounds like its going to be an expansion. It'll be interesting to see how that pans out in terms of revenue. I think gamers have moved on from expansions and prefer more piecemeal DLC. But we shall see. DICE's lame ass four map "expansions" don't count, even with a few new skins, weapons, and vehicles. They're nap packs, nothing more. Also, most gamers will expect $15 for the price tag. So it'll be interesting seeing the bottom line in all this.
Release DLC soon after launch and people say it's too soon, and start accusing them of holding back content to sell as DLC. Take the time to make something really good, and people say it's been too long and that they missed their chance.

This. I'm very biased against DLC, and Bethesda in general, but the timing of this one doesn't bother me. DLC should give players a reason to revisit their favorite games, not overload a player while they are still digesting the original content. Dark Souls came out same time as Skyrim, and its new content isn't releasing until August.

True. It might also be a way for publisher to stop gamers from selling off their games too early.
