Max Payne 3 DLC Announced

Before the game is even released, Rockstar has announced a series of DLC for Max Payne 3 multiplayer. The announced content packs are:

Quote:
June 2012
Local Justice Map Pack

Summer 2012
Disorganized Crime Map Pack
Deathmatch Made In Heaven Mode Pack
Hostage Negotiation Map Pack
New York Minute Co-Op Pack

Fall 2012
Painful Memories Map Pack
Trickle Down Economics Map Pack
Too soon. Way too soon. I wonder how much of that DLC is already on the disc waiting to be "unlocked".

so now DLC gets announced before the games is even finished... Rockstar congrats, you are helping to justify my position of waiting till your games go to the bargain bin before i purchase them

Yes, it's nice of Rockstar to map out how long we'll have to wait for the GotY Edition. They should call the initial release the "Sucker's Launch."

It's a combo move. Jumping the gun and jumping the shark... Jumping a shark with a gun?

I'm not against Season Passes...it lets us know what we are in for. Besides Rockstar did this last year with LA Noire's season pass.

I'm still getting this game at midnight in 2 weeks. Can't fucking wait.

It is more along the lines of letting people know the season pass is going to have some value to it for your $30 - 40 extra.

If people don't know what they'll be getting they'll be less likely to purchase and the developers prefer to get that money up front. First, it probably helps against people selling the game back; they are now invested. Second it captures people who might otherwise be "Meh" 6 months or a year down the line and choose not to buy the DLC after they've cooled down a bit on the game.

If Skyrim had offered a season pass at launch I would have bought it for sure (cause they do quality DLC). However now that the DLC is not coming till summer I'm going to pass and they have lost that money.

I think rockstar's right on the money. DLC market mostly exits for hardcore gamers/early adapters with disposable income, who love novelty factor and do not like waiting. Those looking for bargain deal are not the core of DLC market.

A few weeks back there was an article claiming DLC is generated during bug testing prior to going gold. As I stated then, I cannot fathom the amount of DLC we are seeing being done during such a short time period, especially when it also needs bug testing.

Well, I get the first DLC pack for free as a pre-order bonus, so even if I don't end up getting any more after that, I still have the first map pack to look forward to.

That is, of course, assuming I end up liking the MP enough to want more maps.

This really feels to me like they are begging people to wait for the GotY edition. Knowing that there is a boatload of DLC for any title I would totally skip it and wait for the $19.99 bundled version.

Even more so with a game like Max Payne 3, which I would be getting for the solo campaign.

That's the big debate -- if I'm only going to play single player then it shouldn't bother me that they are releasing a bunch of DLC, but I always end up feeling like I missed out if I don't get the edition that included all the DLC.

Anyone else feel that way?

Feel exactly the same way. I bought Uncharted 3 a couple of weeks ago only to be informed that the "LoL suckers, you bought the incomplete version, Game of the Year Edition" was about to be released.

Even though I am unlikely to spend any considerable time with the MP, I still cannot help but feel short changed.

I am now pretty much of the mindset that I am not going to touch games where the publisher signals an intention that it wants to nickel and dime users with bullshit $DLC.

Instead, I will simply wait for the inevitable complete version which will cost half the price. Its a win win situation, not only is it cheaper, but it also give me time to work through my incredibly massive backlog of games!

I think this DLC stuff is a little shady, but I'd just be getting max payne for the single player campaign anyway. Even that I'm not all that excited about, just doesn't feel like a Max Payne game if its not set in the seedy underbelly of New York City.

"Season Pass" sounds too much like a cable TV subscription which I equate to rip off. Behold $75 videogames! I recently bought a modded 360 due to my previous 360 biting the dust via RROD.
