Isn't it fundamental to the Dark Souls gameplay that you and all other players have a connection to a central server at all times? So, really what other choice is there except for GFWL? Steam isn't going to run servers for them unless they get some cash, and MS already has the servers and all the code that would be needed.
It's funny that people used to say all the same things about Steam, but after they started frequent and aggressive sales people stopped noticing the problems. Maybe MS should learn from that. Make them feel like they got a bargain and those PC gaming "rebels" will bend over and take it just like any console gamer.
The thing is, even if from this point forward there was never a single problem with GFWL messing up saves or any of the other things people have apparently had problems with, all the same people would still complain.
GFWL is still as broken now as it was when it was founded, and we have every right to warn publishers and fellow gamers about why we abhor it.
Namco-Bandai: which do you want? a day-one purchase from me (online w/o GFWL), or nothing (GFWL)? I'm asking this as someone whose rig probably can't even handle this game!
GFWL has stopped me from playing Batman AA for about a year now, bought it on steam but had such a shit fight just to set up a account. Every time i tried i got some bull-crap reason about why it wouldn't work. Just played Bulletstorm which also required a GFWL account, after about 30 minutes finally managed to get it to set up a account, asked it to save the details and log me in automatically and thankfully its been working since then.
Guess its time to finally play Batman AA? GFWL is fine now but was infuriating to set up. Hopefully its smooth sailing from here
