Now here is a game that I could see making a sequel too. I loved the sword/shield block mechanic in Rune. If you timed it right, you were treated to a nice decapitation animation.
Wait, are we talking about the same Rune? The one I played was crap. That was possibly the first game where I felt cheated out of my $50 bucks. I couldn't believe that Prey and Rune came from the same studio.
"So our last game, which was very well received everytime we showed it off, was cancelled for some reason. Its predecessor took YEARS to make. Let's do a kickstarter and see if we can raise a million bucks with our track record of unreliability. What IPs do we have in the closet?"
"Blair Witch II."
"Well fuck my ass and call me a zoophiliac donkey, that ain't gonna work!"
"Dead Man's Hand?"
"Never heard of it, who made it?"
"We did."
"Shit."
"It was, sir."
"We must have at least one fondly-remembered IP!"
"Rune?"
"I said fondly remember--aw fuck it, put up a facebook post."
Any game where I can chop of an enemies arm, pick it up and then beat them to death with their own arm has my vote. Or chop of their head and then throw it at their friends.
I remember when I was in retail and i went to e3, these guys (as part of gathering of developers) had pole dancers in schoolgirls outfits across the street from the show. Anyway I kind of idolized them, and wanted to get behind Rune in a big way, so I wanted to see the game. When I got to the booth, which was a camper bus, they were all "no we're too busy". I never really forgave em.
I think I played that... once or twice... maybe. Im not sure it qualifies as a cult hit. Unless everyone but me was super excited about it and I somehow missed the boat.

A game without mainstream success is called a cult hit. That said, they are going to make a sequel to a game only a few people really liked, and in the process of making a sequel will probably change everything about what the few people who are actually excited about this liked.
