Rumor: Activision Developing New James Bond Game - 007 Legends

Fusible reports that Activision is developing a new James Bond game called 007 Legends.

Quote:
With the James Bond film franchise celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, there is a lot of buzz about the next Bond film Skyfall. What has remained a mystery, however, is whether Activision will release a new Bond game in 2012. But given all the hoopla, it makes perfect sense that a new Bond game will be released to mark the milestone.

If Activision is set to launch the next Bond game, it looks like we might have a very appropriate title: 007 Legends.

You might be wondering where this information came from. Well, it came from the Whois record for 007Legends.com.

It was CoD: Goldeneye but if you're into those types of games then it was very solid. It also had some stealth which made it a bit more 3 dimensional than CoD. If you can find it for less than $10 then I'd say give it a try but if you haven't gotten it by now then don't bother.

I want them to go back to the Everything or Nothing style. Loved that game!

I'm curious as to why bond games go bad.

I mean, Bond games are only even a thing due to Goldeneye. But even that wasn't necessarily a great BOND game, even though it was fantastic game in it's own right.

Can one even decide what makes a great bond game when what makes a great bond film is currently in such flux?

I honestly can't think of a bond game that would make me want to play it. I don't really care if it has a "great story" because it won't be an official story or advance the character at all. I don't really care if it has great graphics because the Bond LIcense isn't going to give me anything I haven't seen before and the graphics potential of this generation is winding down. I don't care if they give me a solid shooting experience because I can get that anywhere.

So... unless this game is a whole new genre, I'm already not buying it. And this is as a huge Bond fan.

As a big fan of Goldeneye, it was good.

The thing is, I play a lot of shooters and have played a lot of shooters over the decades. What everyone calls a problem about Golden Eye was it's biggest strength. Goldeneye didn't PLAY the same as Quake or Unreal and a lot of that is because of the controls. That is to say, the controls were a part of the gameplay.

When you take those controls and make them the same as every other shooter... the game feels a lot more like every other shooter. This means a lot of the hallmark GoldenEye gameplay is lost.

That being said, the maps and whatnot retain enough of the Goldeneye charm to make it a worthwhile gameplay experience if you have a bunch of friends to play with on the couch.

The single player game was different enough from Goldeneye as to be an entire new game and I didn't care for that.
