Variety is reporting that EA is attempting to give Need For Speed the film treatment.
Quote:
Electronic Arts is eager to capitalize on studios seeking their own "The Fast and the Furious"-type franchise, with the videogame publisher tapping sibling scribes George and John Gatins ("Real Steel") to adapt "Need for Speed" into a feature.
John Gatins and EA will produce the project. United Talent Agency, which reps EA, assembled the package whose script is being shopped around Hollywood, with Warner Bros., Sony and Paramount said to be interested in snatching film rights to the racing property, looking to offer low seven figures.
Paramount is said to be a frontrunner, but other bids are still being considered. Universal is the only major not vying for the project, given that it already has "Fast and the Furious," whose sixth installment starts lensing later this year. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
Id go watch it in 3d if it were like the very first need for speed. A slow paced sim type ride through some pretty areas with some snow and rain and leaves blowing. That would be cool right? The driver could stop at a dinner for food and leave peacefully in his car :P
But it will be BUMBUMBUMBUMB EEERRRRRRSHHREEEE SNIKT! RAAAAAAAAAA SWOOOSH!!! WE GOT TO GET THIS COKE OVER THE BORDER YOU SET OF BASTARDS!! *titties* *guns* HE IS THE MAN WITH.......THE NEED.........FOR .....SPEED!!!GRWWWWWOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNBOOOOOMMMM.

I may be stupid for thinking so, but I think there's actually some good potential for a movie in the NFS franchise. I mean, they could just follow the F&F formula and slap the Need for Speed label on it. But I would especially like a film about an underground racing tournament complete with exotic cars, exotic chase vehicle (Lamber-cop!), and of course some completely gratuitous wrecks. Think Cannonball Run, only minus the comedy. (Bonus points if they can get Burt Reynolds to make a cameo appearance.)
The last few NFS, esp The Run with its QTE, seemed more like a cheesy hollyweird flick than a game... EA needs to focus on making a quality NFS game as the last few have been junque. The last great NFS was MW.
EA needs to just make fucking GAMES and stop with all this super heavily scripted bullshit. QTEs aren't real gameplay, and in engine cut-scenes shouldn't happen more than a few times in a game. Fuck EA's creative direction and FUCK EA.
Anyway, I've got an idea for a little comments game. Lets all try to think of ideas worse than this, I'll start.
MTV used to stand for Music Television. Now it's Reality Central.
EA's past will be known for Games. But they strive for movies. Face it Movies are cooler and those running EA whom are not gamers/designers. There is no one cool for them to hang with in games.

I could be wrong.
I remember when they had history on the History Channel.
If they get Criterion Games involved the movie will be 90 minutes of crash animations.
The highly underrated NFS: The Run already plays like a movie with its frequent cutscenes, on foot chase scenes with Ministry playing in the background, etc.
It's not a bad idea considering the success of all the other "dumb" hot car movies. I mean we have like what, 6 Fast and Furious movies already? I'm surprised they only made one Gone in 60 Seconds.
And I'm ashamed to admit that I've watched every single one of them.

I'm a fan of NFS: The Run as well.
Have you tried Need for Speed World lately? It has a ton of solo content you can play for free.
