Tribes Ascend Preview

PC Gamer has posted a hands-on preview of Hi-Rez Studios' free-to-play shooter, Tribes Ascend.

Quote:
Where the game clearly shines, though, is in coordinated teamwork. Great players are capable of virtuoso displays of skill, but a lot of these toys are designed to work together. In one of my matches, an Infiltrator snuck in to the enemy base and blew up their generator, disabling the defensive turrets. Meanwhile a Juggernaut had positioned himself on a hill outside the base and was peppering it with artillery, killing defenders and destroying those turrets in case the generator was restored.

I moved across the map with a small group of Pathfinders and Soldiers, providing cover for one another in case of an ambush. We reached the base, I grabbed the flag, and I leapt from its platform just in time for a friend to pull up on a Gravcycle. We swapped places and I sped off, flag in hand, gunning it up a cliffside towards home. I didn’t make it in the end, and it was a complete fluke of timing, but moves like this are the tip of the possible iceberg with proper planning.

Tribes Ascend is my jam these days. Its so different from any shooter I've played, with all the projectile weapons and crazy speeds. Highly recommend checking it out.

(And it comes out officially on my birthday!)

I thumbs up this game as a one or two match a day-er. It's fun.
Play it, enjoy it, and don't spend a whole hell of a lot of time on it.

I Absolutly loved the original Tribes and played it a lot. It just seems like something is missing from this one. I like it but just don't seem to play it as much.

This game is a ton of fun. It is nothing like your run of the mill military shooter.
You can get extremely skilled at playing the game. Highly recommended.

DemoEvolved in the game. Friend me.

It plays like original tribes but, the maps and bases tend to be smaller.

aye, i think the difference is how small and sandboxy it all feels. That and how fast you can die before u even figure out where they are sometimes.

Those rifles can be nasty once u learn to get a bead on someone.

That was definitely missing from tribes 1. a few ppl were nasty with the chaingun but that was mostly just ppl on the korean servers.

Good times.
