SEGA Cuts Financial Forecast in Half; Cancels Games
Gamasutra is reporting SEGA has fallen on hard times, forcing them to make cuts.
Quote:
Sega Sammy today halved its forecast for the company's current fiscal year, due to the state of the economic environment in the U.S. and Europe, and the "rapid change" in the video game market environment.
As a result, the company has announced plans for layoffs within its U.S. and European home video game business, with a reduction in future video game releases on the cards. Sega Sammy said the move will create a smaller company positioned for sustained profitability.
Sega has canceled development on a number of software titles, although it did not state exactly which games have been canceled -- rather, it said that games based on strong IPs such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Football Manager, Total War and Aliens have not been canceled.

Lets go Rangers!!!!
I disagree. If anything there are too many sonic platform games. Take a look at mario. Nintendo releases very few mario platform games but use the mario brand for other game genres. They make dumb biz decisions. For example, why release PSO on PC, eVita, iOS but not on 360, PS3 and wii-u?? Why no current gen updates to outrun, shenmue (tho rumored), streets of rage, etc. Their latest releases of daytona and rally were lackluster. Sega has a vast amount of IP that is being wasted.

Sonic does need a break. I did like the way they went with Sonic 4 (though I'm not still a fan on how he feels/plays nowadays) but they keep whoring him out way too much.
Sega has tons of IP to work with, yet they don't. It's like their company is just full of retarded people and they never do anything about it. Makes me slightly ashamed I used to own all the Sega consoles. =\
Hey, Sonic Colors was pretty good, and Sonic Generations was pretty great. They just need to cut out all of the other garbage Sonic titles.
A new Streets of Rage would be great though.
I agree on all points made.

And when they do work on one of their IP, it plays exactly the same as they did during the 8/16 bit days. Its like they don't know how to update the mechanics, graphics, sound, etc to today's standards. Then they wonder why their stuff don't sell.

Serious question for discussion: Should Sega give Nintendo a chance at their IPs?
Just imagine the Mario Galaxy team given a chance with Sonic. Or the Mario Kart team a go with Monkey Ball.
