With Game Update 1.2, "Legacy", a whole new array of features will be introduced to Star Wars™: The Old Republic™. While this includes playable in-game content, such as the brand new "Explosive Conflict" Operation, "Legacy" will also introduce a bevy of new features including Player-vs-Player Warzone ranking, and the next evolution of the Legacy system!
MY server is pretty much dead by now (Republic side). 60 people in the fleet during peak hours, but usually around 20.
Fleet = guild?
Honestly, that doesn't sound that bad. It's still a respectable amount of people to play with. It gets bad when there's not really enough people of your level on the server to do content.
Still, I'm tempted to start a betting pool when it will go F2P. DCUO 18 months or STO 2 years?

No, the fleet is the equivalent of Orgrimmar in WoW. It's basically the place everyone goes to use the auction house (galactic market), run high level instances, idle, etc.. On my server it was around 200-250 people during peak hours usually and tonight it was under 100 during peak.
I think getting to max level was just too easy and people have burned through the content and gotten bored. I'm also pretty disappointed in world PVP on PVP servers. My main is level 46 now and I've seen less than 20 players from the other side while levelling. Their quests seem to be designed to keep the sides basically separate up to max level (or very close to it), which is a terrible idea for PVP servers.
I'm basically treating it as a co-op game and playing with a friend. When we hit max level we'll probably run the instances/raids a few times and then cancel our subscriptions.
I found the biggest issue to my enjoyment was that the longer I played, the punier I felt and the harder the game got. It seems the total opposite of what I usually get in any MMO or even single player games.

This is an awesome patch. It's adding a ton of features considering we're only 3 months into the game. Ranked pvp and Legacy system being the two that I'm most looking forward to.
We're playing republic on Rakata Mind Prison. Hit me up if you're interested in giving it a go. My main is DirtyElvis.
That bad already? EA is not helping itself keeping the price of the client so high.
Yup if this was free to play I be all over it. Or if it had a lifetime membership when it came out for like 200 bucks or so I would have gotten that. Do they have a trial yet?

Which means absolutely nothing to me.

OK, it's basically the higher level meet-up and hang-out area (as opposed to the newbie hang-out). Loosing 50% of your active player base doesn't sound bad for a new MMO to me.
I guess it's whether they keep bleeding subscribers, or their subscriber numbers level off and they can keep folks around with these content patches (which the seem to be trying to do now.)
While I realize the game is leaps and bounds over DCUO and STO, it also feels like those games went down a similar path. Lots of early content patches, followed by F2P. It just might be the new normal in MMORPGs. It's just the best any company can do at this point; the customer base is burned out.

No, it's the "main city" where everyone, level 1-50 hang out. It's the place where all the vendors, the auction house, gates to all the available "dungeons" are. When I tried playing it last Sunday there weren't even enough level 50s to form a pvp group (less than 8).
I've still got 25 days left of my subscription, but after that I'll most likely jump the ship like everyone else. Guild Wars 2 can't come out fast enough.

I'd be willing to give it a go if the client was $20. For $60 they can get bent.
These days there are so many MMOs you can try for free why would you pay for one that's floundering?
I honestly don't think "yet." It will take at least a year (and a few content drops) before any true trend is clear.
City of Heroes is nearly 8 years old now, and chugging along with new content and new F2P customers. MMOs tend to have a VERY long tail. And the only thing that matters is profits, not customers per se. If SWTOR can continue with "only" 500,000 customers or so, then they probably will.
