Ex-iD Artist Leaks Doom 4 Media

DSO Gaming is reporting that a former iD artist named Thao Le recently leaked a bunch of media from Doom 4, including concept art, environment screenshots and music tracks. Based on the information in the leak, it sounds like Doom 4 will be a remake of Doom 2: Hell on Earth.

Quote:
Earlier yesterday, we posted some brand new leaked screenshots of Doom 4. Although a lot of you are not aware of how these shots got leaked, we are here to tell you the story behind it. In addition, we are bringing you some new artworks, as well as the first leaked music tracks from the game. Keep in mind that both artworks and music are from early development and do not represent the final game in any way.

Does the name Thao Le ring any bell to you? If no, let us tell you that this man was an employee of iD Software and worked in both RAGE and the upcoming Doom 4 game as an artist. Thao Le had created a portfolio and included a massive amount of his work from Doom 4. We are talking about 170 assets. All of those previously leaked screenshots were in fact included in Thao Le’s portfolio. The interesting part here is that we get to see for the first time a DOOM logo in one of the shots. Moreover, another image is called “before hell wave”, indicating that Doom 4 will actually be a Doom 2 remake.

The article has a link to the leaked content if you wish to see it for yourselves.

Doom 2 with ID tech5 sounds fine. Blurry textures for 60 dollars does not. Lets hope they don't fuck this up.

One of the main criticisms levelled at Doom 3 was that it was just the old gun and run fps of both the other dooms but with fancy graphics. Not much innovation when there was 10 years between games etc...

ID's response. I know lets just make Doom 2 again with better graphics. Genius.

Also I thought Doom 3 was a reboot of the franchise. They certainly banged on about it at the time. How do you reboot and then make the next game a remake of an earlier one? It would be like the next Star Trek film being a remake of Wrath of Khan. Ridiculous.

If doom 4 is a remake of doom 2... Wasn't doom 2 just doom with a double barrel shot gun?

I don't know why people keep saying this. Doom 1 & 2 were fast paced games where they threw dozens of enemies at you at once.
Doom 3 was a slow, walk through corridors in the dark game, where you battled 1 or 2 monsters who popped out of the closet behind you.

They didn't have the same feel at all.

Given that Rage was id's attempt to add some depth to their game, simply adding complexity, quests, and story won't make an id game a great game.

I loved the opening narrative of Doom 3, it developed the story well, but id dropped that style after the first level and it became pretty standard run and gun game. It was still entertaining but i'd loved to have seen better pacing and story elements unfold

Agreed. Serious Sam was the closest a game has come to capturing the game play of the first Dooms, without the mood.

Serious Sam 3 still feels like doom, which is part of the reason it didn't do so well.

While playing Serious Sam I never once thought 'Doom'. I did, however, think Modern Warfare with Serious Sam thrown in the middle.

Doom 3 created cheap tension by making a rough tough space machine incapable of having a flash light and gun simultaneously...

So since id released a DOOM game with a hell-on-earth storyline in the early 90s, they're not allowed to do the same story again 20 years later?

Or do you think they're really remaking DOOM2 in a meaningful way? The screenshots don't look anything like DOOM2 in gameplay or visual style.

Seems like people are confusing the setting with the actual gameplay. I can't imagine old-school style DOOM with all that cover and smallish environments (compared to the size of the DOOM2 maps).

I remember a year or two ago someone from iD said this new Doom would have gameplay closer to the originals, so I agree with you that it's hard to imagine killing dozens of enemies in these small environments. Maybe they changed their mind at some point and the game is going to be closer to RAGE...the screens sure look like it.

Recall this is id we are talking about. When was the last time they released a good single player game? Perhaps the original doom sadly.
