MechWarrior Tactics Announced

A new website has been launched for a game called MechWarrior Tactics. Not much information is available, but there is a countdown timer that indicates more will be revealed in a few days.

Quote:
Giant robots are officially a trend in 2012. The publishers of free-to-play mech FPSim MechWarrior Online just powered up a new web page for a second, separate game: MechWarrior Tactics. Right now, the only thing on the page is a countdown clock set to expire on next Monday, February 20.

Mild detective work tells us that MechWarrior Tactics is probably a Facebook game. The studios credited at the bottom of the page are social game developers—Roadhouse Interactive and Acronym Games are also collaborating to create Family Guy Online. So it’s probably not a successor to the squad-based isometric wonder that was MechCommander, but who’d say no to more mech games? Look for more intel in a week.

Update: Stephanie Schopp, a PR representative for the game, has emailed to let us know that MW Tactics is “not a Facebook game.” Yee-haw!

"...the squad-based isometric wonder that was MechCommander..."

I think I remember it being pretty 'meh', but that's probably because we had such sky high expectations for it.

I actually liked them - but the AI was awful.

Was a blast playing multiplayer with friends.

Btw, when did they change from the incredibly wicked version they posted a trailer for, to an MMO?

Man, they had such a good start on "Mechwarrior Tactics Ogre Battle Area 51 Flavors" I'll bet they are kicking themselves now that they realized what an opportunity they missed.

Know what would be a cool Easter egg in a MechWarrior game?

Officially, a few months ago. They just weren't getting the backing they needed for the high-profile, sexy retail release they were going for.

So now it'll be a F2P MMO affair. I was pretty geeked for this for so long, but they've had to chop the game so drastically now, and what they're trying to do with the MMO aspect... ugh. My interest level on it has plummeted.

Hopefully Tactics will be good, and while I lament what Mechwarrior has been reduced to, I've switched horses to Mek Tek's "Solaris Assault Tech" in the hopes that they'll deliver something more akin to what Mechwarrior was supposed to have been.
