In a world where videogames could fall in love with one another only to subsequently engage in various shocking procreative acts, one might easily reach the conclusion that Disney Interactive's upcoming movie tie-in Tron: Evolution was the result of a passionate, unprotected tryst between parkour-heavy platformer Prince of Persia and neon-blinged racing title Blur. Unfortunately, the world in which we live requires a more tedious and (one would hope) less sweaty process to produce such a genre hybrid. So stop your perverted daydreaming about the potential mechanics involved with game-on-game copulation and instead watch the below Tron: Evolution gameplay trailer from PAX. Sicko.
Looks pretty good for a game set to coincide with a film release, although I'll admit that I'm more than a bit disappointed that it won't be positioned as a direct sequel to the fantastic Tron 2.0.
I wanted to like this game so badly, but it doesn't feel like Tron at all to me. Yes he's got a disc but everything is so frantic that you can't even tell what it is. Yes he's riding a lightcycle but by the way it handles it might as well be a fancy motorcycle.
Tron 2.0 was fantastic and did an awesome job of updating the world, you could look at any level and instantly tell that it was Tron. This just looks like the water world from Attack of the Clones (Kamino?) on a nice day.
The Legacy trailer is awesome but I'm afraid it's going to be the same way. At least you can tell that they're throwing discs and that their lightcycles leave trails though.
Good to hear you guys are excited for Tron: Evolution. I'm actually working with Disney to help promote the film. Have you all seen this featurette that Yahoo! put up about the video game? It's got some game footage, as well as an interview with the game's director.

I have to admit, my excitement level for the movie far exceeds that of the game (but that's mostly because movie tie-in games, by and large, have trained me not to expect much in the way of greatness). That being said, if the game is significantly going to augment the story in the film, then that certainly raises my interest level significantly. The Tron fan in me must know everything there is to know about the universe.
Yea, judging from that Yahoo! featurette and from what I know the video game crew and the film crew worked very close hand in hand in to make sure the game tied in very well with the film.
