UK: Less Than 1 in 20 Games Industry Employees Female
According to a study conducted by the University of Liverpool in the UK, the percentage of women actively employed in the games industry has fallen to just 4%. This is a significant drop from the 8% reported in 2006. Why the drop-off among the XX crowd?
Quote:
The study’s author said dissatisfying working cultures in game studios, as well as other related companies, was the key reason for the sudden drop in female workers.
...
She said 43 per cent of those surveyed believed the industry’s infamous long-hour and crunch culture had a negative impact on their well-being.
An even more alarming finding from the survey was that even though fewer than 1 in 20 games industry workers were female, a full 2 out of 5 are regularly watching Glee. Now THAT'S something to be concerned about. KIDDING! I made that last part up (but I'd still bet it's true).
Out of curiosity I wonder how many are executives. Also, to be fair, it was a volunteer online survey, which basically means the data is close to useless.
Hey! My buddy is one of the main cast members on Glee, so I'm obligated to at least LIKE it (even if I almost never watch it).
So take it easy! We have yet to see any crappy Glee singing games (even though I am sure one is being produced).

The gaming industry tends not to be particularly family-friendly, so it was an easy decision to pass on the offers that came my way. The pay isn't as good either, it seems, as there are hordes of willing young men who would take your place for a pittance. The healthcare industry may not be as glamorous, but it's reliable.
