Hopes to be under $100 is not concrete enough for me to call it "Under $100" I call this more of Sonys "Quick lets steal the competitions thunder while we can!" shanigans they are so well known for.
"Under $100" is a sneaky way of saying they don't want to reveal their pricing strategy to the competition. From their POV it's a smart move. Whomever launches first will be at a disadvantage, and whomever announces a price first is too.
Anenome, why will natal fail again? Have I missed something? How will doing a ProtoWiiHD to your ps3 make you want to buy a ps3 again? You should already have a ps3 if you were interested in.
1. Team Ico
2. You don't have a blu ray player
3. You don't want to worry about the RRoD.
4. GOW3 (not not Gears :P)
I like Natal generally, I just feel that it needs a wiimote-like device to complete its offering. I don't think Natal is sensitive enough, fine-grained enough. We shall see, it's not a hard opinion. I've been giving Sony's solution the edge for near on a year now. It seems clearly superior to Natal, and much more in line with what you need in a game controller generally.
1. I own ICO but never got into it. I love SotColossus however.
2. I don't, but really DVD's are fine still.
3. Yeah, it's a factor, but the new 360 hardware is fine.
4. Nah, my internet connection is a bit wimpy here. I could probably play it, but vs was never my thing. Actually I'd like to play Uncharted2.
Besides all that I have more pressing time and financial concerns. I've greatly reduced my gaming in order to go back and finish off my college degree. Which basically meant quitting WoW :P I always thought it would be easy for me to quit smoking if I were to become addicted--although I have never smoked. Quitting WoW was certainly easy enough, and I was rather addicted. Hell, I had one of the top geared tanks on the server, and I was rich as hell too. My charrie, inactivated as he is, still has some $42,000g on him, and that's after the spending sprees :P

Can I have your copy of ICO?
Congrats on going back to finish your degree. I have been planning to do that, but I hate to pull the time away from my writing to get a degree in writing.

I'm not sure I agree since I imagine both companies will announce the price during E3. Isn't Microsoft's Press Conference always first? I imagine if Sony was toally sneaky, they could raise their price at the last second after hearing the price of the Natal *cough* $149.99 *cough*, but since a lot of planning and marketing goes into picking a price I don't see them pulling that.
In the GDC videos, a lot of games were using two Moves at once, there had better be a package with two controllers or more at a discounted price, I'd hate to be forced to buy 4 "under $100" game+controller packages just to play a decent game of boxing.

Did anyone else notice the lag? Not on the splitscreens where they show you what the Eyetoy sees, but on those shots where they pan out and show the player and the TV? You can definitely see it when the were doing circular motions with the controller (like the one demo with the chick and the Move Party painting game). Or even those moves where they're moving left and right really quick. The image on the TV takes about 0.5 - 1 sec to catch up.
We hate to say this about "pre-alpha" software, but we're feeling lag. An on-rails shooter we tried out, dubbed The Shoot, was discernibly inferior to shooting experiences we've had on the Wii, both in precision and refresh rate of the aiming cursor.
So guess this puts Move and Natal on the same level.

Sounds like it might just be on the alpha build. The video if you watched it said the input lag from device to system is under 1 frame and is the same as the wireless PS3 controller, so it will probably be tightened up.
*Side note* Engadget as a general rule is terrible with anything game related.

God fucking bundle a goddamn mic instead. What the hell is it with battlefield players not communicating?
I know, right? Where am I even supposed to find one of those "Bluetooth" headsets anyways? I've heard they're really expensive too! What am I, made of money??
All sarcasm aside, when the manufacturer doesn't bundle an accessory with the main product, there will be a much lower base of users for the accessory, and when it's something as fundamental to online interactivity as a headset, there will be less interactivity online as a result.
It was a poor decision, basically, but no system is perfect. They ALL have weaknesses. Not including a headset was a bad idea. Of course, MS sells a console without a hard drive. That's a terrible idea as well. Nintendo sells a product without HD capabilities; another terrible idea.

The PSBlog has already stated that the subcontroller doesn't come with the package and it's not a game but a collection of demos based on games coming out later.

Hah, I would feel guilty to part with it and not beat it ^_~ I tend to not sell any of my games, ever. I still have a collector's copy of Ocarina of Time laying around here, unopened in box--the gold edition. I know I didn't give ICO a fair shake but I want to some day, but I guess it's collectible now, huh?
And thank you, yeah, I made that choice to put writing on the backburner in order finish the degree. I could easily finish a novel in the time I have left. So, I do short-stories, and read and learn, and some of the stuff is foundational. My syntax class is eye-opening. It allowed me to create a new fictional form of poetry \ way-of-speaking for a society I've been developing. This society speaks only in noun phrases, largely abhorring the verb except as a descriptor, and uses an almost Biblical triplet along with optional anaphora:
(On the horrors of war) "Our men saying goodbye, our men holding weapons, our men lying facedown."
Well, that example uses a lot more verbs and anaphora than some of the other ones, but it's also quite powerful >_>
Although I have preconceptions against poetry from youth, I knew they were likely false judgments and that the lessons of poetry would help to improve my prose-- so I took a poetry class. Well, halfway through this semester's poetry class that thought has been proved quite correct. The poet's laser focus does have very applicable prose lessons, and I am lovin' it. That's just one example.
But you have a family too, I imagine it would be a lot harder to go back to school in that situation. Plus, you're an established author, of a sort, and writing is its own training.

Package should be controller + subunit + Eyetoy + game "Move Party" no doubt.
I expect further controllers to largely follow the Nintendo pricing model with a slight premium. Sony likes to communicate value by charging a higher price (foolishly sometimes).

A lot of the stuff uses two move controllers, I was kind of hoping (without ever thinking it was an actual possibility) that the bundle would include 2 controllers and a sub unit (in addition to the eyetoy and game they said it'd include). Yeah, I like pie and sometimes I hope to come across it in the sky.
Still, the full bundle (which will prolly be just a controller, eyetoy and game) is under $100, that means the standalone should be pretty decently priced, right? Eyetoy is $40 right now, and the wiimote (which I'm hoping will be comparable in price to the move controller) is also $40 with the nunchuck at $20... any speculation on how SONY will price these (try to shaft us) individually? DS3's are still running at $55 (though the Move controller should be cheaper).

If it is under $100 PLUS the Playstation Eye, that's fantastic. The PS3 Eye, which I have thanks to Eye of Judgement, is of fantastic quality, and has a great microphone in it to boot. It makes Xbox Live Vision look like a complete joke. Hopefully kits without the cam will costs significantly less.
My only problem is that the colors of those balls on the top simply look, well, extremely feminine and baby-like. What less refined posters would describe as "gay".
