Harmonix is developing Rock Band 3 for worldwide release this holiday season! The game, which will be published by MTV Games and distributed by Electronic Arts, will innovate and revolutionize the music genre once again, just as Harmonix did with the original Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band. Stay tuned for more details!
RBN was almost all the innovation they needed, what else are we gonna see?

Mindset of the consumer, they have to make periodic releases. Unfortunately downloadable content is a decreasing revenue stream. It doesn't bring in new customers it only slowly trickles down to current customers. These numbered releases bring game awareness back to the public and possibly brings in new customers/consumers.
Sad really since I prefer the download route, it allows me to actually buy songs I like versus getting 20 songs I like ond 40 I do not.

I own both of the original games, and only play casually, but I can't see Activision doing anything with the series to pique my interest further. Had a lot of fun with the first two during family gatherings, but I still haven't even completed those, much less dug into the vast library of songs available for purchase.
Maybe if they gave some method for non-hardcore players to play the entire tour for fun. Like the first two should have included. Having a group of family playing along through the game and then hitting a brickwall in progress because your drummer (or any mix of members) just physically can't keep up is no fun.
Not everyone who purchased the series is a 15 year old with OCD.

Pssst, Activision makes the competition Guitar Hero =)

I doubt it will happen, but the real improvement they could make is adding a keyboard. Then you'd have all the instruments you need to play 99% of the songs out there. If they did their songs right, it would only be mildly difficult to upgrade the songs already in the library to accommodate this change. It would be sweet.
In the end I doubt it though. And as long as they fully allow you to play all the RB stuff you already own, I'll probably pick it up anyway. Even though I play both, I way prefer RB to GH.
heh The keyboard thing occurred to me too. Mostly would just like to see the improvements they added with Beatles, and maybe some new features/gametypes. Ability to play with multiple lead guitars, multiple vocalists... it would be especially cool if I could play with more than 4 players, I can hook up 7 PS3 controllers at once (and frequently have 6 or more people at the ready). They'd have to do some clever engineering with the hud though. An even more in-depth campaign mode might be nice too, but once we unlocked everything we never looked back, so that might not be a huge deal. More online battle type game modes would be cool... I'd like to do a little battle of the bands live.
The formula is pretty solid, so other than a little graphics boost and a giant new song list, I don't really need a whole lot to put it on the buy list.

That is a pretty neat idea. I hope they do something like that in the future.

Keytar! Or they could give a bigger boost in avatar choices than with RB1 to RB2. It was most of the same stuff with a few extras but you couldnt port your character over. You had to totally restart. More songs with special stage choregraphing. No fee to import my RB2 songs would be awesome. Oh and for goodness sake let me turn off overdrive for the drums. Every time that blank section comes up none of the drum sounds mesh during that piece of the song, let alone I can loose my rythym over it. Let the keytar players have overdrive, I want my songs to sound right.

While I agree that a keyboard controller would be awesome, I wouldn't hold my breath.
I can't find it right now but I do remember reading an interview with someone on the Rock Band team. They mentioned that one of the problems with including a keyboard part/controller in the game is what to do if the song doesn't have a keyboard part to play. The keyboardist in the band ends up just sitting and watching everyone else play.
I think it was before they had songs in RB without a vocal track though. So perhaps they've changed their mind about it and a keyboard controller is actually possible.
Yeah, do we really need a new Rock Band? I would be happy with more DLC instead. Maybe they will release a new drumset with cymbals, that would be reason enough for me to get number three then!
