The real game doesn't even begin until playthrough 2 where all of the enemies are way harder to kill and can kill you much easier. And if you aren't playing with friends I'm sure it can seem rather boring at times. I'm nearly level 50 and about half-way through playthrough 2 playing with friends on and off throughout and it can't be more fun. The mixing of character abilities and mods makes every encounter more interesting than running through the game solo.
I'm 47 on my second play through and I generally only get good drops from either "badmuthas" or from random chests. Sometimes the vending machine will have a decent shield or class mod. The vending machines seemed to offer more powerful guns relative to my level on the 1st playthrough.

If the real game doesn't start till you've put 15+ hours in, then it's not a game I'm interested in playing any further. While only single player, Torchlight is a third of the cost, and in general feels more satisfying.

What I think he's saying is that it even more fun your second play through.

- Oh please, it's a similar thing with WoW, where the real game doesn't start until you hit max level. And everyone puts in a hell of a lot more than 15 hours to reach max level in WoW. Yet another reason why I think a Borderlands MMO would be a great thing.

I didn't suspect that little twist ending until about 5 minutes before opening the vaultt. The garme was a let down in terms of story- back at announcement it seemed damn epic and badass, then they did the overhaul and lost everything. It was comical and fun, but it lost all the grit. I think burnt face girl's speech about the vault was more interesting than the poorly portrayed fat russian.
My absolute favorite thing about the game is the opening- the use of that Cage the Elephant song was genius and really set the tone of the game.

I'd disagree. The story is very immersing in WoW from lvl 1 - 80 thus why people start many different alts and races. For some the game starts at 1 and ends at 80 and for others its the exact opposite.
For me, a lack of story in Borderlands actually works out for the better. The only thing I wanted to do was run around and complete missions while exercising my firearms. I just played last night another three hours.... I love it.
I really havent paid attention to the story, and I think even if I had it probably would have made little sense, but I'm still loving the game. It's like a mini-mmo. Satiates my need for an action RPG without having to pay a monthly fee.
Tannis is the only memorable character in the game. The story may be non-existent, but at least they provided with a humorous character.

I agree with you big time. I was prepared to come down harshly on Borderlands for its lofty claims pre-release, but it delivered in a way I couldn't have imagined before playing it. It is the game I have dreamed of playing since Hellgate: London was first announced.
And that song sets the perfect tone for the game. Plus, that band rocks tits.
