I noticed this new package in L4D2. Commendable, but they could easily go with a sturdier package made of cardboard/paper with a small plastic holder for the disc.
I believe someone mentioned packaging similar to DS titles, which I agree with 100%

Why not use all renewable materials for packaging? There is high quality cardboard stock that could protect the games well.

Meh, doesn't bother me, I have a sleeve that holds about 12 discs and I put my most played games in there.

These new cases suck, they might as well put the games in a paper sleeve.
