GamePolitics has word today that the ESRB launched their very own iPhone application. With it, you can search the ESRB database to get all the information a technologically savvy adult needs. Now watch out Billy! Grandma is onto your tricks. She won't buy you Dead Space for your birthday because all that information is now just a few arthritic keystrokes away.
Quote:
Dead Space is a third-person action game that takes place in a mysterious space station. The protagonist searches for clues found in the form of audio/video clips and various other items while avoiding hazards and fighting alien monsters. He uses several types of guns, lasers and flame throwers to defeat enemies. Characters lose limbs and heads, accompanied by sprays, stains, and gushes of red blood. Dismembered alien and human corpses appear regularly. Strong profanity (e.g., "sh*t" and "f*ck") can be heard in dialogue and seen in graffiti.
Oh peshaw. Space station? "Planet Cracker" mining vessel? You get buried in symantecs too much.
What's important is that Tony Hawk RIDE is fucking awful.
Well, this is an official description for the game, it should be accurate. USG Ishimura is a gigantic mining ship... it doesn't simply float around in some planet's orbit for people to touch themselves in and proclaim unity among continents.
But what I don't understand is why is so hard to figure out the rating system. Just read the package, it will give you a real good idea of what your getting into. You don't need a "APP" for that!

You give people a lot of credit Dan, and for that I respect you.

I assumed it was for parents or someone interested in doing research before going to the store to pick up the game.

I assume anyone capable of using an Iphone, installing an app, and then using it to search for a specific game has the necessary cognitive skills to read a box.
If it weren't for automatic doors at Walmart, the people who can't read that little rating box would never get through the door to buy the game in the first place.
