I'd have to say Final Fantasy IV. The story, the music, and the general presentation of the whole game is some of the best of the SNES/Genesis era. It is also one of the only two entire video game soundtracks I own (with the other being the soundtrack to Onimusha).
Plus, I like to call people "spoony" from time to time and see if they pick up on it.

Since we are chancing for Nostalgia I'll have to say "Dungeon Master" by FTL games was probably the first RPG that totally blew me away. I spent many hours roaming the bland grey halls looking for ever better loot and had a absolute blast doing it. Anyone else played it? I know it was a long damn time ago lol.
I LOVED Dungeon Master. Also, what ever happened to making your characters stop to have to eat and drink in a game? PROPER HARDCORE.

Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast was the first console I bought on my own, and Skies was the first RPG I ever played all the way through. The epic storyline (and the awkward sexual tension between Vyse, Aika, and Fina), ship battles, and using my VMU to find every Cham I could were unforgettable.
I came late to the RPG party. The first RPG I completed was Shenmue, and it is still my favorite. I loved the whole asian action-flick feel and story, in fact that is what drew me into trying the game to begin with.
Fav RPG is Dragon Warrior. Yes the original. It is my fav because it is the game that started my obsession with console rpg games. Plus the music was awesome.
