The article is misleading. The Xbox live accounts were not banned. A bunch of live accounts were banned for playing a review copy of Forza 3, but that isn't what they were talking about here. They just banned the consoles themselves during this recent wave. So the pirate still gets to keep his XBLA account, but no one on that Xbox can sign into Live. All they need to do is buy another console.

I had to call Microsoft for a seperate reason, and the recording at the beginning of the call was saying that there is no way to lift the bans, and not to take it out on the call center.

I've been kept busy emailing folks selling "banned, modded xbox, DOES NOT WORK ON LIVE" and laughjing at them. Crazy to see the influx of ads yesterday.

And to anyone here who got banned, fuck you too, assholes.

There's no way to "check" until you try to take the system online, which is after most people have bought the damn thing. Well look at this...

A high level of piracy around the launch of Modern Warfare 2 has lead Microsoft to ban a number of Xbox 360 systems from Xbox Live. Now those systems are hitting the secondary market, and you might be stuck with a banned system if you're in the market for an inexpensive Xbox 360. Even with "free" games, this just isn't a good deal.
I. Called. It.

what's with all these little dickweeds assuming shit? i don't have to pirate, i have a dev box sitting beside me. i'm simply saying it ridiculous to ban a million people when i know for a fact the ban is not full-proof. there have been many accounts of people simply being banned for playing REGION FREE IMPORTS.

that's right. don't talk unless you know something about disc jitter and the security checks they actually use.

Pieces of shits like you deserved to be banned. You should know why MS did this. Dev console? What the hell were you doing with that? To play more counterfeit games?

You think banning is pointless, yet we hear tons of screaming pathetic pirates cry fowl already, and you calling the move as "ridiculous"? It may not be full proof but its better than doing nothing.
