Very classy and commendable move by Epic. Why are there so few companies in the industry that understand it's in their own best interest to do things like this? Expanding the pool of talent in the industry is a good thing and will pay dividends down the road for everyone.
Taking it one step further, it would be cool if developers could have some of their staff periodically serve as guest lecturers at gaming courses and/or develop outreach programs to expand the demographics of the industry (as a white guy, I have nothing against white guys - but I suspect having more women and minorities could be a good thing).

Yea, Unity did this last week, except without the 25% royalty cut, so good chance Epic's been sitting on that one for a bit. Still, kinda nice now, lots of indies have an interesting choice to make, instead of little/no choice at all.
Great news. I had fun playing around with the UE3 back in the Unreal 3's map editor, great stuff and a much better multiplatform console solution for indies.
Well i'll say this ... its already casting doubts over whether or not I will continue with XNA.
I've just realised how often I type "..." in my posts.
^_^ I have seen some people who use ellipsis so often that it's like a replacement for the period and the comma :P It's quite funny to see people write that way for an English major like me Reminds me of the kid who wrote a letter to the president and his parents told him to put a comma in every time he paused. So, he put one in every time we paused while thinking of what to write, which averaged out to about one every other word ;P And his parents let him send it that way, to his embarrassment years later, after finding a copy.
