GOONL!NE has cribbed a quote from the official Playstation Magazine hinting that a sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum may be in the works.
Quote:
Speaking in Issue 38 of Official Playstation Magazine (out now), Sefton Hill replied to the question of whether gamers would see a sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum by saying this:
‘I’m not really allowed to comment on that, but there are definitely lots of exciting stories to tell in Batman’s world, and I can say that we’re really privileged to work on it, and excited about future possibilities.’
I hope the next one is set in the city instead of just the island.
Me too. Although I don't think they should go with a GTA "sandbox", I like fewer but highly detailed environments for this particular title.
I'd think a "Metroid Prime 3" setup would work well, where the Batmobile is like Samus's ship and you can go back and forth around various locations around Gotham instead of different planets... go from the police station to a crime scene to the batcave to a bad guys hideout.
I'd also like Batman beat up Superman at some point in the game, sure he shouldn't be able to but with he's got that kryptonite ring.
And I think they should just call it Arkham Asylum 2 no matter where it's set to distinguish it from other not so good Batman games, they could give the asylum a cameo to get away with it.
I haven’t got around to finishing Arkham Asylum, but so far its absolutely amazing! I haven’t seen that much detail put into a game in a long time (until Uncharted 2 came along).
No, no, if they're going to make another one they need to really throw the dice! Go for broke!!! They should expand the movement system so you can move over vast expanses quickly and create the entire city of Gotham and set Batman waypoints to crime via listening over the police scanner. Get there fast enough, drop down into an alley, and beat a thug over the head for stealing a purse, interfere in bank robberies, etc., etc., until the larger story unfolds and we focus in on a particular baddie.
If they went that far, they'd have a whole lot of respect from me.
go play the Spider-Man games. Superhero games, honestly, don't do well if they're too sandbox. That's not what superheroes stories are about.
An open world to do things in is one thing, but running around and beating up purse snatchers is not interesting gameplay.
My favorite Batman game was the SNES Batman & Robin Adventures or whatever. It wasn't a beat 'em up but a sort of puzzle game. That shit was HARD. The need a nice mix of puzzle/solve it with Batman gadgets and pure ass kickin'.
I just feel like I want the full Batman experience instead of this prepackaged corridor beat'em up. They need to up the ante a bit. There's not much difference between corridors in Arkham and alleys in Gotham. Same basic principle. It can still be on rails to an extent, it should just at least give the illusion of being totally open. Doesn't need to be 100% sandbox, like I said he's got a police scanner, easy enough to give him missions immediately. This isn't GTA. I dunno, you could be right, but I see no reason why it can't work necessarily. And I certainly didn't mean for it to be the bulk of the game, only the pretext for the larger story which would quickly take over, and soon incorporate moving around the city to get to particular destinations to include that wider scope as part of that larger involved story.

This. Spider-man and Prototype and those other GTA clones are full of bland inaccessible buildings that you pay no notice to as you go whizzing by, while in Arkham every building plays a role. Hopefully the sequel/prequel stays the same.
I heard someone on some podcast say there was a Justice League storyline which involved aliens taking over the Justice League HQ. The aliens assume the forms and powers of the League, then imprison all superheroes in stasis fields. The only left to help out is Batman - who possesses no superpowers, and was not "worthy" of the alien's attentions.
I honestly don't know if that's a real plot or if the dude made it up, but could you imagine a game where Batman had to infiltrate the Justice League HQ then kill clones of DC heroes? Sold!

Only to find out that the alien clones actually put themselves in the stasis field, tricking batman into killing the DC heroes for them...
That's some M. Night Shyamalan shit right there...
