Who else is excited for the Prince of Persia film? It’s going to be coming out over Memorial Day next year and I think will be a great film to kick off a blockbuster summer. It’s going to have some incredible special effects, huge battle scenes, and an epic amount of action. Jake Gyllenhaal really had to bulk up for this role, so you know there will be plenty of combat and stunts. Plus, the fact that uber famous producer, Jerry Bruckheimer is producing it, it’s pretty much guaranteed to entertain.
I refuse to be genuinely excited for a video game movie until I hear that it is ACTUALLY good.
However this movie has a chance. Mike Newell has at least directed a movie I have liked before (Goblet of Fire). It also seems to have some good backing. But, as with any video game movie based on a game I like, it's a wait and see with little hope.
The main thing that excites me about the movie is how much input the actual creator of the PoP series apparently has with it. I absolutely loved the sands of time trilogy (even the subpar second game) and i think it would be great movie material.
I agree, Mike Newell is an excellent director, and someone who I think is going to do an impressive job adapting the classic video game to the big screen. I thought he was great directing Donnie Brassco, and he showed he was able to handle a massive Hollywood production when he directed Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Did you all see that the trailer for the film is now online? IGN is hosting it. I think it looks pretty awesome. It seems like an epic summer blockbuster that will provide a ton of action as well as a few laughs. The thing that impressed me the most was the epic size of the city. Not sure if they built that or it's CGI, but it looked incredible. What's everyones thoughts?

Thought it looked good. That's about it.
Not that I mind dumb, fun blockbusters, mind you.
Also, I found it awesome that everyone in ancient Persia managed to speak with a British accent.

Nobody's (okay, I'm exaggerating) going to watch if it's mostly in a foreign language would it?
Same case with the Valkyrie movie last year starring Tom Cruise - a German with an American's accent. Spoiled the settings but hey, it did quite well in the box office, wasn't it?

I think this has a very good chance of being good.
I mean, really, the only videogame to movie transfers that haven't gone well are the ones in which there is no possibility they will go well. The original content just isn't of a high enough quality in film respects to make a film out of it. It's quality is high in game respects and that's why it's a game.
PoP had a good story with pathos. There's no reason that won't make a good movie.
I think the biggest question that needs to be asked is... why? Wasn't the game good enough? When will gamers get past the need to be accepted by mainstream pop culture?
The trailer looked pretty good. But I hope they don't try to shove in too many one liners like the ones in the trailer. Usually non-comedy actors just can't pull it off and it just ends up sounding stupid and takes away from the action.

I say if they're going to speak english when they normally wouldnt anyway, why not just do away with faking the accents too? It makes just as much sense that germans would speak english in a german accent for the entirety of the movie than it does for a german to speak english in an american accent.
Sean Connery applied this to all of his movies (except with a Scottish accent) and look how that went? OSCAR WINNER for playing an irish cop with a scottish accent.
Looks really good. I like how they've adapted it, definitely has good elements of the game in it. Also has the man, the myth, the legend Harry Gregson-Williams doing the score.

Yea, I think the game's storyline will translate very nicely to the big screen. It seems like a no brainer as to why they would make this movie. It's a famous franchise, that has a great adventure genre story. And as we all know, the base of any good film is the story.
