With the Wii struggling to appeal to 'hardcore' gamers it may well be a good thing that some older Gamecube titles are being remade. Resident Evil Zero is one of them and it'll be released on December 1st.
Quote:
Just in time for Halloween, Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil Zero has been given an official release date. Capcom has announced that the updated prequel will be out on the Wii in early December.
Like the first game in the Resident Evil Archives line, Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil Zero is the original 2002 GameCube title with added motion control support. The original isn't extremely hard to find, but if you haven't played it yet, you might want to wait for the release.
These could be really good with a well done pointer interface. I don't think we'll see motion-control classics until the next gen of consoles. Imagine this on X720, HD, motion-controls that are 1:1, etc. It would be nice.
What a trainwreck the Wii is turning out to be....and it looks like the general public is finally over the fad.

I've got all the Resident Evil series on the Gamecube and I only got RE4 on the Wii coz of extra game modes. The Archive series don't add anything extra so I've given them a miss.
This is the Wii's bread-n-butter, but I have issue with the OP saying that the game arrives "just in time for Halloween"... the game doesn't come out until December, dangit!
But don't worry, there are still plenty of people who will trip over their dead mother's corpse to get to a new Zelda, SSB, or Mario game, so Nintendo will be fine.
I still don't own a Wii, and doubt I ever will. We'll see what they pack in their Wii v2.0.
Wii isn't struggling to appeal to "hardcore" gamers. "Hardcore" gamers are struggling to accept the Wii. It's as simple as that. If the mass of original content that came out this year, both in terms of disc games and WiiWare games won't help the Wii in this regard, then Capcom putting out cheap ports isn't going to change things.
Of all threads to talk about this, why does it have to be one for a crappy RE0 port? You do know that Capcom/Cavia are coming out with Darkside Chronicles later, right? Even though that game's a rail-shooter (I'm not a big fan of those), it's still a better indication of the Wii in terms of "hardcore" games than the RE0 port is.
The port is just Capcom trying to make a little extra cash. It's not representative of anything else. And I'm not agreeing with their move, either. I appreciate them for supporting a more robust and original package (Darkside), but not for porting the likes of REmake and RE0 to Wii and pricing them both, separately, with no significant changes or enhancements, at $30. In terms of ports, Nintendo's efforts with the likes of Pikmin and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, and their above-and-beyond effort with the Metroid Prime Trilogy, put Capcom's crappy ports to shame.
Then again, they also gave us RE4: Wii Edition, an enhanced version of an already-incredible game. Wouldn't it be amazing to know that they're using the funds of the "Archive" games to make an RE4: Wii Edition 2? And no, not just a Wii version of the lackluster (at times) RE5, but an actual original game that merely takes the engine and gameplay from RE4 and introduces it to a new storyline and new environments. That would be drool-worthy. Hell, that's what I wished the original Umbrella Chronicles would turn out to be in the first place.

Do you have any more information on this?
RE4 on the Wii has got to be one of my favorite games of all time. RE5 was such a disappointment in comparison.
I've sort of re-evaluated my position on the Wii in the past few months.
I think the selection of Wii titles is mostly average to below average, but there have been some pretty interesting/curious titles for it. Soul Calibur: Legends isn't what I'd call a good game from a gameplay standpoint but if you are a fan of the Soul Calibur characters and storyline, it's a compelling enough playthrough. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and Dead Space: Extraction are the exact same thing to their respective franchises that SC: Legends is to SC, and despite being rails on shooters, they are strangely absorbing. Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption are also worth the time as they are well designed games. And there are others too, like Zelda.
But I think, by and large, the statement that the Wii doesn't cater to the hardcore gamer is pretty fair. Any game that would appeal to hardcore gamers just doesn't seem as robust as complete as it might seem on the Wii or PS3, and something always seems to be lacking from the Wii games tied to franchises that hardcore gamers might care about.
The Wii store is really nice and the games aren't too expensive, too. But I don't think hardcore gamers, by and large, are saying that a Wii is worth owning simply because of the Wii store so that hasn't propped it up.
The notion that Mario and Zelda can save the Wii, however, is nonsense. They didn't save the Gamecube, and the Wii's hardware is essentialy the same thing.
The console IS a fad, pure and simple. Nintendo marketed it to non-gamers and soccer moms and it sold like crazy. We really shouldn't be surprised to see the drop off, given the reality of it. I'd be surprised if NIntendo wasn't expecting the drop off as well. In fact, probably the only reason they're making any statements about the Wii's sales at all is simply because the media expects them to address the concerns in some public fashion. It behooves them to do so, atually. Unlike some other companies, at least they're acknowledging the problem exists without trying to spin it too hard (unlike some other companies have traditionally done.)

If the Wii console, and by extension the motion-controls, were but a passing fad we wouldn't see MS and Sony building their own motion control solutions. Motion controls are the wave of the future. The 'two-hand' controller as we've known it since Coleco days in all its varied incarnations is on its way out for good, replaced by wand-style motion-capture. This process is inexorable because only with a 3D input can a 3D display be adequately incorporated--the Virtual Boy proved this in part. Eventually we may have true haptic interfaces which will complete the 3D illusion with tactile feedback.
I think the main reason the Wii hasn't fulfilled its promise is because the controls were not 1:1 from the start. Had they been, then games like 'Red Steel' wouldn't have been abject failures. But, you'll notice that Red Steel 2 is being prepped for Wii using Motion+ controls, and I expect it will do well this time.
