Don't really see why L4D 2 news makes people upset. Keep it up though, maybe we will get something extra from the complaints. For me, L4D was a blast. I can't wait for L4D 2 and will buy it day one.
Am I the only person who sees these releases as more comparable with NCSoft's Guild Wars than any other business model?
Hmm, let's release a game, that's free to play online, but we create new content. We make it backwards compliant with the past games and interchangeable but the new content adds nice fancy things.
They are just turning this into one big cluster fuck of a mess. Just release L4D2 for $30 to new users and $10 for L4D1 owners and be done with it....then support it for the long haul.
Then get to work on real Dawn of the Dead mixed with L4D style -action, survival MMO.
Just making it look more and more like a big expansion.
Yeah, fine. Does it really matter what they call it? They could call it a fruit smoothie and I'd still do the same thing: evaluate the content and decide if I want to pay their price for it. The title matters not.
Hell, Doom2 was basically a big ass expansion pack for Doom. So what?
I'll be buying L4D2 regardless of how this stuff is released, i already knew that...
same here. i think valve are releasing it and selling it at full price of a normal game because they know that even if we have problems about it we will still buy it regardless. im not really bothered that much by it i just hope that these changes make it even more awesome to play than the first.

I didn't say I had an issue with it. It just strikes me as an incredibly bizarre strategy.

This strongly signals that this a large expansion pack - given Mr. Newell's statement I would be curious as to whether it was only a recent decision to brand it a 2.
That's what I took away from this announcement as well. Making Mods usable on both games, having inter-game MP, why the hell should I bother getting the new game at full price when the older one will be just as good (minus the new single-player levels)?

Which will be easily added in via mods if Valve does what they say...

The "customer" started taking advantage of the fact and then became arrogant to the point of impossibility.
I absolutely agree with that. It's funny at what the internet community gets offended and enraged by.
I think backward compatability was the straw that broke the camels back in my perspective. The "gamer community" just proved to be completely unreasonable. Microsoft was like "look, you guys don't want it. We've studyed it and found you don't use it. So we're not going to do it"and the gamers were all like "F YOU! WE HATE YOU! WE'RE NEVER GOING TO BUY ANYTHING YOU MAKE EVERY AGAIN!!!" and then MS was like fine and added it in only to have people not use it, and then they were like "look, we're going to stop this" and everyone like "F YOU! WE HATE YOU!!!"
