If for whatever reason you haven't purchased Fallout 3 yet, the time is NOW. Steam's weekend deal is Fallout 3 at 50% off its normal price. Seriously, $25 for this bad boy is basically a no brainer. GO GET IT.

Good call, but how far behind can that be? I mean, why not just release the GOTY edition now?
I'm fairly certain that Bethesda said the console and PC versions were due for an october release, which is what amazon and ign currently show for pc/ps3/360
Is it possible to get the DLC (the pitt, etc) with the Steam version?
I've tried looking on the steam forums but sometimes finding a straight answer can be difficult there.
If it is possible, how do you do it?
I would assume so. You purchase the DLC via Games for Windows Live and it just downloads some BSAs into your data directory. Steam shouldn't change that process at all, it's generally very friendly in terms of adding extra content to the games the same way you'd do it for non-Steam games.
The one exception I've found is the Hexen II expansion, Portal of Pravious, which just will not run with the Steam version of Hexen II.
I would suggest PC'ers to get a retail disc version. The latest version of the game has VATS issues still and Bethesda is completely ignoring the problem. v1.0 (on-disc) and v1.0.0.15 (first patch) do not have any problems.
Yeah, I'll wait to see the Fallout 3 landscape after the GOTY release. My gory-games-saved-for-alone-time plate is full enough for me to wait for that.
Who knows, maybe there'll actually be Steam integration for that content. Does guaranteed GFWL DLC re-download support disappear at a predetermined interval after the introduction of said content? I'm also wondering for the sake of the Burnout Paradise DLC.
Grabbed it for my wife, as she's been interested in it for a while, but honestly I found Oblivion to be underwhelming enough to diminish my interest in this one. Having said that, I'll definitely be watching over her shoulder.
Highlights one of the sucky things about digital distribution, though. Once she's finished with the game, it's still tied to her Steam account. It's a stupid, silly hoop to have to log out and log back in with her Steam ID just to play the game.
