Blizzard Entertainment has filed a new trademark named Cataclysm with the US Trademark and Patent Office. The trademark covers computer games, pen and paper games (and comics) and online games.
You can't trademark a word's common usage but are instead only able to trademark it's use as a title.
And more... you can't Copyright or Trademark a title of a movie or book unless the title is unique. So, anyone can make a movie titled Terminator or Aliens if those movies are not about the Cameron Terminator or the Cameron/Scott Aliens.
This is why movies often end up with stupid sub-titles to the title. The Dark Knight II: Batman Returns or something like Tomb Raider: Jolie is Jealous.

Probably referring to the next World of Warcraft expansion, which could sensibly be announced at this year's Blizzcon and would most likely have to deal with the Maelstrom, which is the big swirly water vortex in the middle of the world of Azeroth.

Yup, this is the most likely option, but we never know
The Maelstrom / Cataclysm site is probably one of the latest main location of the warcraft world that has not been exploited yet
