In the latest episode of "As the Console Confusion Turns" Aaron Greenberg from Microsoft told Kotaku there will be no new console.

While Ballmer's casual mention of a new Xbox 360 hardware iteration at the Executive's Club of Chicago seemingly confirms a rumor originating from 1UP, Microsoft's Director of Product Management for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Aaron Greenberg told Kotaku "There will be no new console."
"We're not going to be launching a new console any time soon," Greenberg said during a phone call today. "I really believe he was speaking about Project Natal."
"We want to make sure people know that we're excited about Project Natal," Greenberg noted, "But we're barely halfway through this generation. We're happy with the Xbox 360, so there are no changes from that standpoint. For the time being, we're really just showing a whole new category of gaming."
Asked if Microsoft was at least considering putting the hands-free motion controller technology into a new Xbox 360 configuration, Greenberg said "Yes, we have looked at that, but we haven't announced any details for something like that."
Sounds like he's trying to run damage control if Ballmer let the cat out of the bag early.
Who can say for sure?
The only thing I know is if Microsoft is going to require me to purchase a new console to use Natal, they are going to have to SELL it to me first, and SELL it well. I'm going to need to see some outstanding games.
This is getting really interesting as both Sony and MS move beyond their "we don't comment on rumors and speculation" into absolutely addressing rumors and speculation. This must really be doing a lot of damage to both companies. I honestly think it really has gotten out of hand...
Geesh I thought we covered this. There is no souped up 360 coming!
You can improve stuff like HDMI ports or more HD space but you can't break fundamental compatibility unless it's via a new peripheral that is required for the games that will play on it, like a guitar for guitar hero.
The closest thing I've seen to a true console upgrade was the Genesis 32x, and that experiment must never be repeated..

IMO this would better exemplify a temp-upgrade to the 360. Behold, the failed Neptune!
An upgraded 360 though, I'd probably buy that since I don't own a console. {I don't count my Wii, too embarrased!}
you guys are giving them free press, they do this shit on purpose.
That doesn't make much sense. If people thought a new 360 was on the way they would hold off on buying a system. They would be castrating their current sales.

(tin foil hat)
None of this talk even gets outside the boards. The people who read this stuff are going to buy what they are going to buy and news like this will have little to no impact. I just gotta wonder if its not fanboy bait to keep the discussions going. Drama= console war= sales. The average buyer doesn't care about or know of a new console.
Or maybe they are just fucking with everyone for the fun of it. I dunno, i am pretty sure that balmer knows how to keep his mouth shut at this point though. Seems calculated to me. Or they could be trying to force the competition to hint or talk about something so they can come up with a strategy.
Its like people who say they are not buying a DSi because it doesn't play GBA games, or not buying a PS3 because it doesn't play PS2 games. Or somehow MS going back and forth on this would cause someone to buy a PS3 Aint nobody doing that shit... It does make for good talk though.
