GameStop Screws Wii Motion Plus Consumers

While recording Evil Avatar's Shotgun LIVE this past Wednesday, both Ruumis and Ravage confirmed to me that, despite hearing that the Wii Motion Plus would be $19.99, it is in fact $24.99. I just took this for me just not remembering properly until today's Consumerist story popped up.

It appears as though folks heading to GameStop are going to get screwed if they want to simply buy one Wii Motion Plus accessory, to the tune of an extra $5 (total of $24.99). Stores like Amazon and Best Buy are charging the normal suggested price of $19.99 for it.

Quote:
Suffice it to say if you want the accessory get it anywhere but GameStop. Your best bet is to buy the new Tiger Woods bundle, which comes with the accessory for $60, as opposed to the $50 the game costs on its own. If you want to go sports/Motion Plus crazy, Target will give you a $20 gift card if you buy the Tiger Woods bundle and Grand Slam Tennis together.
I know, its only a SUGGESTED price, right?

I had to buy Persona 4 used from Gamestop the other day because it's getting so hard to find. It pained me so much to do business with them. To make matters worse, the guy working the counter was a total twat.

Ugh.

I pre-ordered a game at gamestop that came with a free artbook (Knights in the Nightmare), but because i was out of town on vacation and was unable to pick it up...
...I asked them to hold onto it for me until i came back, and they did. They even knew what i was looking for as soon as i walked in the door!

Then i talked to the people behind the counter for an hour or two as usual.

Still, overpricing is a much, but i honestly find this to be a surprisingly sound business decision. They know people won't look elsewhere for it, so why not make an extra buck?

Just outta curiosity, was the used price comparable to this?

It was $28.99 plus tax. If it hadn't have had the instruction booklet, box, and bonus soundtrack CD, I would have gotten it new off Amazon instead (though they wanted 40 for it just a few days ago). Like I said, it panged my very soul. :[

First party Nintendo accessories have always had almost a zero percent profit margin. That's why GS pushes the third party crap harder. In the case of the Wii tho, they can't do this and simply have to eat the loss in order to be competitive.

It seems this time they refuse to and once word of mouth gets around....
