VG247 has some info about Mass Effect 2 that supposedly leaked out from the next OXM by some blokes on NeoGAF. Here they be, in a bulleted list.
Quote:
You will play as Shepard, but for how long is unknown
There is a new species called the Drell and Thane is a new character who is an assassin and may join your party
Planets - There will be a Krogan planet, and Illium, an Asari planet, that is like Coruscant from SW. Also there is “Omega” with is like an anti-Citadel in that it’s huge and it’s the bottom of the barrel whereas the Citadel is the height of civilization. Also a Cerebus mothership will act as a location of significance.
Story - The ultimate story is still civilization fending off the Reapers, but this chapter will deal with this Cerebus corporation and it’s enigmatic leader. There are human civilizations disappearing and it’s up to Shepard to investigate, it’s termed as a “suicide mission” which may lead to the details of the teaser.
New vehicle that controls better than the Mako…a “new” control scheme.
Totally revamped inventory system
Elevator system revamped where you will get the sense of scope of where you’re at and where you’re traveling.
No more texture pop in.
Secondary races like Volus and Elcor are much more mobile, giving more depth and makes things more interesting.
Choices are more meaningful and there is a real risk that major support characters (i.e. anyone not Shepard) can and will die.
Also on the story, they’re super-hyping the ending, saying that it’s much more grand meaningful in ME2.
More weapons, more species, more/new team members.
Returning team members, locations, weapons.
I still can't freakin' wait for this game. Ruumis needs to give me my copy of ME1 back so I can blow through it a third time.
Another fall release... this will be our second year in a row of 'Everything releases in November' that breaks the bank and leaves me with games I still haven't played six months later.

What's the tally so far?
Modern Warfare 2
Mass Effect 2
Assassians Creed 2
Bioshock 2
Batman
Blur
Starcraft 2?
Yeah, I too an excitedly scared of the holiday release schedule, and this is prior to any E3 announcements.
Also, I absolutely loved the ending of ME. I thought the last hour or two of that game was simply incredible, so when they talk about expending the scope and meaning of the sequels ending, I get very excited indeed. ME is easily among my favorite games so far this gen, and I an really looking forward to the sequel.
New species, motherships and planets. I really hope they had all this planned beforehand and are not pulling these out of nowhere. Sounds like a great game though, don't get me wrong, I just don't want to see things not being planned well ahead with the novels and all that also in the mix. You can do it the (for exmaple) Babylon 5 or Lost way. Both can be great but ultimately Babylon 5 still remains superior.
Another worry of mine is what this does to original Mass Effect? I mean some years into the future, we have the whole saga playable but the first game(s) just don't feel that great because the sequels added so much depth and gameplay elements, fixes and so on.
Phinor: Omega was mentioned in the book that was released prior to ME1 as being a sort of anti-Citadel, and in the game Cerebrus is given a lot of mention - and actually, is kind of a loose end that you never quite tie up. So I'm pretty sure they had at least the idea of these things planned out, even if they didn't have all the details.

I hope they revamp the combat system, as flowing as it was I barely did anything with the 'spells' they had. It's not that they should be more powerful but I think a better scheme can be worked out considering their background. I'm not demanding fireballs but I do think that they could be more creative. I mean celerity with 'vibro' blades would be neat, more stealth options, just anything.

Good to hear. I did read the first book and did play through Mass Effect but I'm bad at remembering short references, names and such at least on the first time through whatever media it might be (book, TV, games).
As far as my second play through Mass Effect goes, I'm still waiting for Steam to drop the price from the ridiculous 45 euros. I know it's cheap in retail but I really don't want to buy anything with limited activations in it even with revoke tool. Hard drive crashes (had one in 10 years, but still!) and simply forgetting to run the tool are both reasons enough to not do it

I just want this game and Modern Warfare 2. Oh and Assassin's Creed 2. Oh and don't forget Bioshock 2. But that's it. Oh and you have to get Starcraft 2. But other than...ahh who the hell am I kidding. Another poor November it looks like.
