You read that correctly. Edge Online is reporting that Nintendo is starting to push their online mulitplayer games hard. It hasn't made it's way to the US yet, this is currently just on Nintendo UK.
Quote:
The 'Get it Online' campaign has kicked off with a huge banner on the official Nintendo site which leads users though to a series of movies showing how to get the Wii connected to the internet.
There’s also a load of multiplayer game footage and features on the Wii Shop and web browser, and users are invited to submit their mobile numbers to receive text links to mobile versions of the videos.
Perhaps they should reexamine their online system instead of just saying HAY PLAY OUR GAMES! Be sure to watch their video.
That's the achilles heel to their system. It's not interconnected, which makes each game like an island, and each gamer and isolated entity.
Well, technically speaking, if the system has memory onboard and a standard NIC or W-NIC, couldn't they change that? Why couldn't they create a new channel, like a scaled-down version of Live?
I'm not saying this will happen, but it's possible, right?

I doubt it. It's not like the Wii has resources to spare. Let's say for the sake of argument that a game currently on the market uses 100% of the CPU/RAM. How would that new "channel" run in the background?
I guess they could only load that channel with games built for it but yeah, not gonna happen.

They could just make a new addon and software update that adds an additional CPU. Its not like they don't already have 400 addons, whats another $50 piece going to do?
I've heard that ExciteBots has pretty seamless online play; but i think that friend codes are truly fucking nintendo, developers AND consumers over for this round.
