Square Enix Announces Order of War

Square Enix has announced a new WWII RTS, Order of War for the PC, due out Fall 2009.

Quote:
In the summer of 1944, the Second World War entered its end-game when the Allies launched two major operations that would drive back German forces on both the Western and Eastern Fronts at once.

In the ultimate test of military strategy, ORDER OF WAR will challenge you not only to lead America's finest to victory in the west, but also place you in command of German forces charged with repelling the Red Army's seemingly unstoppable offensive in the east.

Even the keenest military minds will find that it's one thing to make history, but quite another to change it.

Do you have what it takes to command?

Features
  • Experience WWII warfare on an epic, cinematic stage; that truly captures the intensity and scale of the battlefield
  • Command of an entire armed force consisting of up to 1,000 soldiers, tanks, armored vehicles, artillery and air planes
  • Players can choose between two different campaign modes offering completely different storylines, missions, objectives and environments
  • Experience the unique dynamic camera that allows players to command troops over huge geographical scale whilst maintaining movie-like vistas and detail
  • In-depth gameplay mode: two different campaign modes, multi-player, Deathmatch and Skirmish
For more information on ORDER OF WAR please visit the official website at http://www.orderofwar.com/.

"To lead America's finest victory in the west", I thought it was an allied army that fought Germany in the West. Why can't we lead troops in Americas Victory in the Pacific as well, I think I will stick to Hearts of Iron 3 when it comes out.

They are a Japanese developer...I doubt they'd want to have to vilify themselves.

They aren't developing it. Wargaming.net is. Sqeeenix is merely publishing it.

OMG!
A World War 2 game?
I've been waiting a LONG time for them to start making games about this particular period, I can't belive the well has gone untapped for so long!
Now if only we'd see more Tolkein-esque fantasy driven games in the near future I think i'd be in gamer heaven!

Oh please Jesus let this evolve into a turn based WW2 RPG with loaded with Nazi magic.

In fact, take Final Fantasy 7, put Clowd in a WW2 stile army helmet, add "Nazi Materia", and replace Seproth with Hitler. Also, please replace "Knights of the Nine" with "Nukes of the Nine". That would be perfect.

I want a WW II game based upon Japanese history books. In Nanking, the Japanese soldiers will sit around with the local Chinese women and children drinking tea and chatting about how to increase cross-cultural understanding. In Korea, the Japanese will comfort the local women with visits from caring, understanding troops sharing cherry blossoms.

Then, the player gets to visit Yasukuni Shrine and lay a wreath in honor of the emperor.

My sentiments exactly. Maybe we can hope it's a not-so-historically specific take. Like Valkyria Chronicles or something. SE just doesn't strike me as being a company that likes gritty realism.

Sounds kinda like World in Conflict, only in WW2 instead of an alternate-reality modern day. And on a much larger scale.

My interest is peaked, if anything.

Apparently you don't understand that it is really really funny to think of Square developing a WW2 game.

Exactly why I posted the picture I did. So absurd to fathom a WW2 SE game it's funny!!

ANOTHER WWII game?!?!?! Hasn't the industry got the memo? ENOUGH ALREADY! The shots look nice, but I stopped playing any WWII games a while back. I played so many I feel I should be getting veterans pay. Seriously, stop please. How about a game that takes place in modern times? Or how about the future? Or a fantasy setting? Just not WWII!

I'd like extra onions and no tomatos on my order of war. Also, a large milkshake.
