A student from Yale University has filed a ridiculously large $1 million lawsuit against US Airways because they lost his Xbox 360 following a flight between New Haven and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. From Cincinnati.com

A Madeira man who is a student at Yale University claims in a lawsuit that US Airways stole a video game console from his luggage during a flight, and he wants $1 million in compensation.
Jesse Maiman, 21, filed the suit Monday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court.
In it, he noted that he took a Dec. 17, 2008, flight from New Haven, Conn., to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Included in his luggage for that trip was his Xbox 360, which had a specialized hard drive and components he said cost more than $1,000.
When he picked up his luggage after landing, though, he noticed how light it was. He opened the bag, the suit noted, and he saw that everything was there except the video-game console and its accompanying components.
He immediately went to a US Airways representative at the airport to report what he called a theft.
What followed, his suit alleges, was weeks of "an unconscionable 'run-around' " that saw him write or speak to five airline employees who gave him what he considered to be nonresponsive answers.
"This was an annoyance that they really hoped not to deal with," Maiman said.
"That thing was my DVD player," Maiman, a junior film studies major, said. He was the 2006 Madeira High co-valedictorian.
Not so crazy if he claims that a film that he was editing only copy was on the hard drive. He's actually got a case I think.
That being said Airline employees are fucking thives every God Damn one of them....I have actually had on baggage guy come out of the back listening to my Zune...it is fucking insane how much they steal and what the get away with.

I'm not surprised they are thieves. They get shit for pay, around $10 an hour.

1 million dollars because he lost a 300 dollar item. Hell even if the cost was 10,000 where does he see the justification in asking for a million? He gets his million and then people who fly for the next year end up paying more money , that sounds pretty fair lol. The kid should be arrested for wasting the courts time and money on something significantly stupid.

chances are good that he's been raised with a silver spoon in his mouth, and therefore is entitled to the million.

i'm saying 'changes are good' because i'm extrapoguessilating that if it was a bourgeois that got into yale he/she wouldn't be 'wasting' the opportunity on pursuing film endeavors. then again i'm not in the loop enough to know/care what/where a good film school is.

This is really quite special, this quote. Starbucks antipathy + Battlestar Galactica reference = truly geeky.
Drakkarim is correct, what kind of douchebag totes his fragile electronics around in an airline bag? I hope they pay him less than the value of the original piece and pay him like $300 for a new 360.

Seems this happens regularly (unsurprisingly) and they have a standard stipulation for this:
"Further, our publicly available baggage policies specifically exclude liability for electronics checked in luggage."
maybe they'll pay him a few bucks just to make him go away, that's usually what most of the suits are about anyway aren't they? avoiding bad press, well, perhaps a bit late for that...

Wow, people are hating on this guy because some douche that worked for the airline stole something out of his bag... and this is basically his only recourse? As drakkarim said, airlines specifically exclude electronics from their liability, so they will not refund him, short of him filing a civil suit.
1 million is a crazy amount sure, but he would be stupid to go into this requesting 300 bucks... you start high and negotiate, thats how these things work.
I also like the equating of Yale to Douchebag. That's awesome. Just because someone goes to Yale does not mean they were born with a spoon in their mouth, or up their bum.
I agree 100% with this guy. No one has a right to take anything that I own. Just because he stuck it in his luggage or they make 10 dollars an hour or the airline has a disclaimer doesn't give people the right to take his 360. the amount he is asking might be ridiculous in comparison to the value of the 360 but I understand the principle of what he is doing. If this is the only way that he can get some recompense or make the airlines try to employ some antitheft measurements than I'm all for him.
