Regular system hangs in the NXE. In particular when browsing friends and related things in the pop-up guide. I do love that pop-up guide but I would love it more if it didn't hang for 10 seconds every other time I use it =(
I had this problem too, and thought it was normal for everybody, but after I cleared the hard drive cache for an unrelated issue, the hangups disappeared too!
I'm still lost in the NXE menus. Finding places you use very rarely takes way too much time. At times it feels like the menus are missing logic and on top of that, it's not always clear what the menu you have currently open even does or includes.
The only positive feature I have found so far is copying your game onto the hard drive but even that is pretty useless feature with a 20GB (13GB of actual free space) hard drive. They must be getting some excellent sales with those overpriced 120GB hard drives because they have still not allowed the use of our own hard drives.
Ps. Add G25 support and change your patch QA system - getting patches 10-14 days later than PS3 does is not good for your whole "better online service for a price" theme.
It's true but I believe it was established there is a whole lot more space devoted to advertising now? And Gold subscribers feel a little gypped on that.
I'm a Gold subscriber that doesn't feel all that annoyed with the way they're handling advertising now. They've clumped it all together into one easily-avoidable section instead of spreading it out all over the place.
Plus, I've been reminded of things that I wanted to check out or buy thanks to that ad space on a number of occasions.
I'm not the biggest fan of advertising, mind you, but I realize that it needs to be done and Microsoft is at least handling it rather tastefully now.

I think the new dash is a complete clusterfuck. It's decidedly slower and poorly organized. I also don't like the fact that it automatically boots to the Spotlight section. It was bad enough when I was seeing ads when I pay $50 a year on the old dashboard. At least the first blade had some usable functionality beyond trying to sell me shit. Now it's just one more step between me and doing something I actually turned my box on to do. Marketplace is still a disaster. The new friends list (outside the guide) is completely unusable and poorly thought out. It's a shame, because their actual features are totally amazing, but their UI is absolutely horrible.
Microsoft are the kings of solving problems that nobody had.
1. I wish I could set it to start up directly on the My Xbox tab. I'm sure everyone does. Obviously, they have it set to go to the ads/etc. to be able to garantee to advertisers that their content will be showcased but it's still sad times.
2. Regular system hangs in the NXE. In particular when browsing friends and related things in the pop-up guide. I do love that pop-up guide but I would love it more if it didn't hang for 10 seconds every other time I use it =(
1. If you don't set it up to auto sign in when you boot your 360, it does start at My Xbox.
2. You can lessen the hang and slowness by doing this:
If you’re experiencing prolonged dashboard lag after the NXE or the HDMI update, clear the cache from the HDD to fix this problem. Remember, clearing the cache will delete game updates (which are very easy to restore) and it will not completely remove all lags associated with the new update/s.
To clear the cache, please follow the instructions below as accurately as possible:
Boot the X360 (but don't sign-in) > System Settings > Memory > Highlight Hard Drive and press Y > Then press X X LB RB XX and select Yes to preform maintenance on the HDD > Restart the X360
Note: Clearing cache may also improve game performance and other dashboard functionalities.
ps. I can confirm that I noticed a lot more 'pep' after I cleared my cache using this method.
I don't like it. It tries to hard to be gee-whiz. I don't despise it, but I still stumble occasionally trying to find what I'm looking for.

If it was not for the goofy avatars, I would be quite happy to ignore the bits of the new dash I dislike and get on with it, but I seem to react rather poorly to these mutant humanoids. They make me angry for no easily defined reason. So having them turn up in games is just fully unpleasant.
I feel like Microsoft are courting a market segment that does not care about them, and in the process starting to alienate at least a few of us that did. I imagine financially it balances out for them, then.

You know, I don't like the avatars either (as I said earlier), but I couldn't imagine them actually ALIENATING anybody. It's just something I don't pay any attention to. They feel like a lost cause. I'm sure more than a few kids/ladies were pulled into messing around with an XBox because of the avatars, but there's no way anyone actually quit the Box because of them.
It's far better than I expected, but mandatory upgrades aren't going to sit well with a lot of people.
This isn't anything new - new system software, dash upgrades, etc. have always been put on game discs since the console launched. There's a bit of a lag from people who get it instantly online, obviously, but this is the same as any sort of system software update.
NXE isn't just some sort of skin or theme - there's a ton of fundamental changes that have been done to the underlying system as well. So it's impossible to make optional. Be sort of like people wanting Windows 98 UI in Windows Vista - time moves on.

Well, I did. I have other options to play on.
Yeah I know it's over the top but I just hate the look of it all so much, I can't exactly say why, but I am mad at having it pushed on me when I was perfectly happy with the console I had. Incremental design updates over the years standing.
If I do not like the UI to something I tend to not use it, and if a UI I like is forcefully replaced with one I dislike it has the same effect.

I like NXE, mainly because of the speed. I think the main menu system is kind of confusing and more annoying to find stuff, but the little box thing you can pull up with the xbox button on your controller is nice.
I thought it was mandatory though. This is news to me.

What other options? Nintendo has Miis and Home has equally stupid avatars. I think you are just singling out Microsoft for really no good reason, as avatars are something that are ever present on every console platform, and all are easily avoided.
Where was everyone when I was hating on NXE at its launch? So now everyone hates it? Before you guys were all so excited and I was making my own noose before I created an avatar. Now I don't even care and everyone else hates the damn thing.

MLB 2K9 was the first to have this feature embedded about 2 weeks ago and all other games after that will have the NXE embedded from now on, the disc will have a new PFI and Video A
